Roma Man in Advanced Talks

West Ham United are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Tammy Abraham from Roma, according to Il Romanista.

The Hammers have been linked with a move for the England international for several weeks, and it now appears that they are in with a shout of agreeing a deal.

Abraham has been in impressive form for Roma since joining the club from Chelsea in 2021, and he is considered to be one of the best strikers in Serie A.

The 26-year-old has scored 30 goals in 78 appearances for Roma, and he has also been capped by England on 31 occasions.

However, Tammy’s injury record is undoubtedly concerning, and it still remains to be seen whether he has returned to anywhere near his best after suffering an ACL injury in 2023.

The English hitman has missed 301 days of football since that injury, so signing him obviously won’t come without any risk.

It has to be asked, is £25 million for Tammy Abraham is a risk worth taking? With rumours abounding that the Club are considering letting Danny Ings leave on a ‘free’ and swallowing a massive loss, a replacement must surely be in the pipeline. Whether this will turn into a loan signing or an outright purchase for a player like Abraham, especially one with a chequered injury history, is a tricky one to predict.

I think we should sell Ings for a modest fee as long as we get his wages off the books . However , Abraham is not the answer , need a younger less injury prone player .

  • Ian says:

Loan plus option would be the better deal. Let him prove his fitness.
Unless of course this is just a way to try to get Villa to drop the price for Duran? (I’m overthinking things again!)

  • Nelly says:

Don’t get it. 25 million is a huge risk or a player who gets injured as much as Tammy. Especially as Anthony Martial is available on a free.

    • B says:

Nelly, Please do not mention that man (A******* M*******) anywhere near West Ham…

Tammy Abraham was not an injury-prone player prior to the ACL injury, look at the stats please before commenting

    • Steve says:

      No, not Martial!
Man U fans were glad to see the back of him
Look at the difference with AWB – they’re gutted

  • TommyD says:

Would have to be a season long loan with an option considering he has played very little football since suffering his ACL injury. Can’t believe this rumour at all to be honest…

  • Andy Stone says:

Absolutely not. It’ll be with a long contract due to PSR leaving a very long risk on a dodgy ACL.

  • Two footed challenge says:

He’s played 11 times for England, not 31. 31 is even more than Les Ferdinand and Andy Carroll put together.

  • Essexhammer42 says:

Abraham is not the answer after playing very little football since his ACL injury. For me Jonathan David is a much better option with 26 goals last season and in his final year of his contract with Lille said to be available for similar amount as Abraham. Scored 19 goals or more in each of the last 3 seasons and Man Utd, Newcastle and Spurs also interested. Would also love to see us bid for Sammie Szmodics from Blackburn Rovers who scored 27 goals and top scorer in the Championship last year in a team who just escaped relegation. Ipswich just had another bid rejected.

    • John says:

I would agree with going after Szmodics. He showed what he could do last season, and I heard somewhere that he is a West Ham supporter too.
When players get to play for the team they support, they usually give 100%.

  • Steve says:

Do they? Lee Bowyer was terrible!

  • elduder says:

    ignore roma propaganda

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Seems a strange one if the reported price at £25m is right, like Calvert-Lewin he is injury prone, if it is a loan without an obligation to buy then I could see a value in it but he is just not that aggressive as a cf he won’t close down from the front and a bit like Haller he needs a good supply to get his goals. Roma have changed their style too much more of a press and if he doesn’t fit into that at Roma where it is easier then the PL then what is it we are buying him for ? Maybe another impact sub or perhaps it’s just as a homegrown player to replace Antonio or Ings whom we might make a small fee on ? Personally would keep Antonio we know what we are getting with him and he can normally be relied on to scare some defenders.

  • Mavded says:

why would you move Zouma on because of his knees and can barely run and replace him with a striker who has a rotten injury history….hopefully this is a smokescreen for another player

  • Benny the Aussie says:

Nah this is a smoke screen or just agent talk.
I believe we will go for another attacker.
I think we have plenty going forward and we need another CB or CDM if we get rid of some deadwood.

  • Steve says:

I would only say loan with an option
Maybe option becomes obligation with certain criteria
With his injuries it’s too much of a risk for a permanent transfer
    Stats for 22/23 season:
    9 goals in 54 games
    Only his 21/22 are Ok
    19 in 53
Not sure where the numbers in the above story came from

  • Macephtopheles says:

“The 26-year-old has scored 30 goals in 78 appearances for Roma, and he has also been capped by England on 31 occasions.”

He’s scored 37 goals in 119 appearances for Roma and has been capped 11 times by England but other than that your stats are once again 100% accurate… somewhere in the multiverse, I guess…

(Actually, wow. You’ve somehow mistaken his time with Chelsea where he scored 30 in 82 appearances, I guess. Yet still managed to get that wrong too…)

  • Ìan says:

Ì hope this is just clickbait and they’re not seriously considering this, hav’nt they learned anything

  • Taffyhammer says:

A great big no to Tammy. We already have ‘deadwood’ apparantly. Absolutely no point in adding to that pile or replacing anyone. Looks like he would become the new Kieron Dyer or Jack Wilshere albeit cheaper but still a drain.
