Fabrizio Romano claims the Hammers are biding time on striker options as the winter window approaches.
But interestingly he adds that it’s David Sullivan and his new No 2 sporting director Tim Steidten who are “looking for opportunities.”
Although, like us, Romano has no names at this stage he has readily confirmed what we revealed several weeks ago that the club have a single priority this winter – to bring in that striker.
And it runs against many suggestions which have been made in the past, and no doubt will again over the next few days, that Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips could be an option for the hammers in midfield.
We are well looked after in that area at the moment but with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola explaining in his presser yesterday that he will be available in the winter market expect the West Ham speculation top start again. It will all be meaningless for as revealed to us , a striker and nothing else is on the Hammers agenda.
Romano said: “I don’t have concrete names regarding transfers yet. For sure they are looking into the strikers market but at this stage it’s still early to mention the ‘correct’ name.
“West Ham are taking their time to decide and discuss internally. The chairman and the sporting director are looking for opportunities.”
