Romano: Guilherme Set to Land Saudi Transfer

It will be interesting indeed to see what West Ham’s transfer team can cobble together to get a deal for Luis Guilherme finalised. The Young Brazilian has been treated pretty shabbily since his arrival at London Stadium, sitting betwixt and between the under 21’s and the senior squad without ever getting more than a few minutes’ cameo appearances.

It is as if nobody knows what to with him. You’d expect that with a normal teen talent – West Ham repeated the trick before with Divin Mubama who couldn’t seem to get any game time under David Moyes and was sold to Manchester City in the end.

The difference is about £20 million between the two players. And that £20 million could go towards a first first team goalscorer right now so Guilherme is something of a luxury at London Stadium that cannot be afforded in the current injury crisis.

Fabrizio Romano on his Twitter/X Feed has confirmed the player can, and probably will leave West Ham this January:”Brazilian talent Luis Guilherme can leave West Ham for Saudi Pro League this month, as interest is genuine. Al Hilal made initial contact to be informed on deal conditions, no proposal yet.”

Which is pretty clear evidence that Guilherme will be on his way.

If West Ham recoup most of what Tim Steidten shelled out for his ‘pearl’ in the Summer, then the Hammers will be doing well.

To me, there is a bigger picture to stress.

If West Ham didn’t have a pretty big ‘spend’ planned, they’d probably keep Guilherme and look to nurture him for the future. Earmarking the player for a January exit means the chances of a striker purchase by West Ham United instead of ‘mere’ loan deals just got that much more likely.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970.. Don't take my comments too seriously, imagine we are having a chat at half time over a pint at L S and "let's disagree without falling out".

One of Graham Potter’s strengths is in developing young talent. There’s seven months to the start of the 2025-26 season…… time to get Guilherme ready for a first team start to replace Kudus (assuming that he himself will be leaving)

It’s madness to let Guilherme go now. In three years’ time he will cost Manchester City or another wealthy club £100m to add him to their squad.

  • John Ayris says:

I only ever saw from the outset that he was an 18 year old who would train with the first team not the youth team and who would not be a regular first team starter, the odd sub appearance only.

That’s precisely what I’ve seen, and when he has come on while not setting the world alight he hasn’t looked too awful either in frankly what has been a not setting the world alight team.

In short I’ve seen exactly what it said on the tin. Keep him or move him on if the money can be better utilised but don’t make him out to be something more than the story ever said.

Good luck to him,go and play regular first team football at a club that actually wants him.
Feel sorry for him like us fans moving to the London Stadium he was sold a dream but in reality it’s a nitemare.
Serious questions have to be asked as to how Steighten was allowed and in the end here wasted £25million on a young Brazilian who had only just got into the first team at his respected club, yet we couldn’t find that little bit extra to get Duran in a player that would have genuinely made a massive impact at our club.
For every Neymar or the next Brazilian Ronaldo there’s a 100 odd young Brazilian talents that show initial promise but are eventually duds,I have a feeling young Guilherme will be in this category,Steighten took a gamble he failed so let’s look at the here and now and try and get some decant money for him or this is West Ham so let’s try and get near the amount we bought him for then reinvest it now to try to give Potter some players he would like that he can work his magic on….COYI

I’ve seen a lot of fans spelling Tim Steidten’s name wrong with lots of different versions of it too. But I haven’t seen “Steighten” before. Congrats, I reckon you must be the 1000th poster to get it wrong! 🙄

  • Hammerry says:

The fans deserve an explanation. If he is a future superstar why aren’t we giving him a chance? If he’s a dud why did Tim the turd diver pay so much for him? WHU is not the sort of club who can spend that much money on a bench warmer and sell at a loss a few months later. This whole thing is very suspicious. I’d much rather see us clearing out our players over 30 but if there’s no buyers for them we’re in a tough situation. Knowing WHU’s luck, they’ll sell this guy at a loss his new team will try him as a striker and he’ll become a world class player in 2 seasons

  • Ray says:

It’s as if those that have seen him in training have concluded that he is not EPL material, but nobody has come right out and said it, which is odd. This case has all the ingredients for another horror story that could return to haunt West Ham. Whatever happens I hope things work out for the lad.

we spent every dime we had to land todibo with the transfer fee due in 6 months

this window was always suppose to be a dead but we suddenly find ourselves in an injury crisis with no capital to rectify it

just because we are getting our money back for guilhereme doesn’t me we don’t think he’ll be good enough, reality is we don’t have buyers for anyone else

if we want to bring someone in we need to raise some capital, it is what it is

  • bonzosboy says:

the unforunate pawn in the game is this young and obviously talented player. what a disgraceful way to treat someone attempting to live out his dream. feel for him

  • Phil Baker says:

In Essence , the purchase of Guilherme prevented the purchase of Duran and caused the debacle that is Fulkrug . Everyone everywhere knew that Westham needed a quality striker for years and yet Steidten blew his budget on an unready winger . I think Steidten is a brilliant negotiator and blaggard to bring players to Westham , however budgeting with a finite amount of money not so good and needs oversight . Westham could never afford to wait a couple of years for a 25 million kid to come good .

    • John Ayris says:

No it didn’t. Sullivan being tight prevented the purchase of Duran. Sullivan then said go get someone cheaper which turned out to be Fullkrug. Sullivan needs to own both of those failings just as he needs to own Lopetegui.

It’s just as valid to say paying £40M for Kilman prevented the purchase of Duran or however much was spent on Summerville, or any of the other seven players who were brought in during the window.

  • Jeeps says:

Already been through this debate previously and overwhelming response was to keep him.
Providing super rich club want him and he wants to go they need to bid £25-£30m shouldn’t go at a loss.
Again, tonight, article saying Potter has instructed board to go and get David.
If it’s true and Guilherme cash allows this to happen then so be it.
Otherwise if its a load of toffee need to keep him.

  • Chris David says:

I feel like there’s something else going on that we don’t know about with Guilherme. The whole thing doesn’t add up.

  • Timbo says:

Never understood this deal in the first place. Why would we spend that amount on a player that wasn’t ready or almost ready for the first team? I’m sure it was said at the time that we needed to buy now or pay more later but instead his value seems to have diminshed with us. I think that Potter is a coach who can get the most out of players, so unless we need the money for another purchase, we should keep him and see how he can be developed.

  • Rocco says:

    I find this really depressing!

  • DutchCourage says:

This is really disappointing all round, the club should be utterly ashamed of the way they’ve handled this young lad.
