Romano: Hammers make approach for ex-Arsenal misfit

West Ham have made an approach to the agent of ex-Arsenal misfit Stephy Mavididi, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 24-year-old came through the youth ranks at the Gunners but failed to make a first-team appearance for the club, going on a variety of loan spells, before joining Juventus permanently in 2018.

Mavididi again struggled for minutes in Italy but joined Montpellier in 2020 and has been in excellent form for the French club, making 71 first-team appearances and scoring 17 goals, while also registering three assists.

A former England U20 international, he primarily plays on the left wing but has the ability to play up front as well, and Romano reports that the Hammers have asked his agent about the potential of him moving to east London this summer.

Brighton, Southampton, and Everton are also said to be interested, along with fellow Ligue 1 club Marseille.

It remains to be seen if these approaches are formalised with concrete bids over the next few weeks.
