From the four possible choices as Fabianski’s replacement, it seems as though there’s a clear favourite emerging to be the next London Stadium-bound player this summer. Zion Suzuki, Mads Hermansen, John Victor and latecomer to the rumour factory Stoke’s Viktor Johansson (main pic) have all been suggested.
The sheer cost repercussions of the first two – Suzuki and Hermansen have asking prices over £30 million – would surely discount them in a window of meagre transfer funds – but the late addition of cheapest option Johansson to the list of candidates has a more appropriate West Ham-level of authenticity. The smart money -excusing the pun- seems to be on a modest £10 million or lower spend as the Irons seek to squeeze as many deals out of the Kudus money as possible.
In the know journo Fabrizio Romano – who is not normally wrong- appears to have nailed his own ‘keeper colours to the mast:
“ West Ham are advancing to key stages of John [Victor] deal with Botafogo after official bid exclusively revealed last week. John wants the move and the clubs are discussing on fee/deal structure.”

At under £10 million, the Brazilian number one seems to be the most likely re-inforcement at West Ham this week, with the fact that Victor wants the move to East London being crucial. How often this summer have we been told that West Ham been ‘thwarted’ by players being against a move to east London owing to the lack of a European football showcase next season.
Mads Hermansen didn’t ‘thwart’ a move to West Ham because of a lack of European football or for any other reason. He has been, we have been told, keen for the move. Leicester were keen to sell too. The ‘thwarting’ was done bty David Sullivan because he considered him too expensive or, rather, not Poundland cheap enough. I guess quality has it’s price and you get what you pay for. Let’s see how this turns out!
Really really can’t understand why WH didn’t make any attempt to get Kelleher from Liverpool. Went to Brentford for £12m. Now finds himself since signing at a club where the manager has left, their main man Mbuema is gone, captain Norgaard is gone, and Wissa refusing to play again for them. WH are dysfunctional but that’s a whole other level!
Despite the negative headlines yesterday am keen on this move as it is not overly expensive and if that means we have the money to buy the midfielders we need to make that area competitive and creative. If it turns out that he is inexpensive and successful then whilst not quite the red bull model it will be another step in the right direction.
Victor Johnson from stoke would not be £10 million or under- probably more like £12-16 million
Getting mixed signals about this one….The..itk…Reckon he is rubbish..However he is Brazils number 1 …So he cant be that bad…We can all say historically Brazil has not been noted for their outstanding keepers…But at 10 m…Lets wheel him in and give him a chance…Areola needs competition to keep him focused …Thats probably why he has been making errors of late…This could be a good shout.
I dont believe he’s Brazil no. 1 keeper. I dont believe he has even played for the Brazil national side, only at under 17 level , according to Wikipedia.
Brazil’s number 1?
He hasn’t even played for the national team
What about Allison and ederson?
@Darren That’s exactly what I was going so say in response to jb above! He obviously doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
He isn’t brazils number 1. Also Brazil have produced a great number of goalkeepers in the past.
