Football ITK Fabrizio Romano has been looking more like “IDK” with some of his recent West Ham transfer posts.

That said, his early morning revelation that Hammers full-back Emerson is set to join Marseille does seem a safe bet. Posting on social media, Romano wrote:

“Emerson Palmieri to OM, here we go! Deal done now between West Ham and Olympique Marseille. OM will pay €1m total package, add-ons included. Green light now from #WHUFC to travel. OM close deal for Emerson Palmieri wanted by Longoria, Benatia and De Zerbi.”

Crikey—did I read that right? £1m including add-ons? Ouch.

Still, at least it clears his wages off the books I guess? By my reckoning, that’s now close to £1m per week saved in wages since the end of last season.

Emerson’s been a good servant to West Ham, but for whatever reason neither Julen Lopetegui nor Graham Potter seemed keen to make him a regular.

With this move now done, expect Maxwel Cornet, Andy Irving and Nayef Aguerd to be the next through the London Stadium exit door.

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

Started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

Give West Ham opinions on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus.

Sometimes feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

Seems a weird fee but, as stated, getting him off the wage bill is more important.

Diouf is a clear upgrade, has 10 years on him and likely a lot of resale value. We’ve got Scarles as straight cover and both AWB and KWP can drop into the left side of defence if need be and someone on nearly £100k a week who’d likely not make the bench is someone you don’t need on the books.

Decent enough player obviously and wish him all the best but not sad to see him go.

The amount doesn’t matter as he was not part of future plans, if he is happy, it is £5m off the payroll and at 31, a reduction in the average age. Would still rather see the back of Aguerd, Rodriguez and Cornet in the next 24 hours.

31 years old. Surprised he’s not a free transfer. Did he have a year left on his contract?

  • John Harrison says:

Palmieri has been one of our better players during his time here. I think he’ll do well playing for de Zerbi.

  • NoMoMoney says:

1mil. doesn’t sound like much in Premier League terms, but in France?
Emerson’s £5mil. salary will get him in the top 20 highest paid players in Ligue 1 (Capology), so Thanks, best wishes and ‘Bonne chance’.

  • Matt Palmer says:

I think that is harsh on Emerson. He is a decent player that seems to have been put at the end of the driveway with a “please take” sign stuck on his head. I wish I could do that to Rodriguez instead and we will certainly need to do it to get rid of Cornet!

  • Peter the Dutchman says:

No Gonzo, you read €1m which is £865k!!
