The Premier League kicks off in earnest in just over a week: West Ham‘s last pre-season fixture is the clumsily-named Boyle Sports Cup tomorrow afternoon when the Hammers take on Lille. Sunderland await when the serious stuff gets underway the following weekend.

Both sides have been busy this summer with new recruits strengthening their squads: West Ham have signed Callum Wilson, Kyle Walker Peters and El Hadji Malick Diouf along with teenager Daniel Cummings. Mads Hermansen is about to put pen to paper as the latest recruit to the potter Project.

Along with the additions of Enzo Le Fee, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava, Chemsdine Talbi, Simon Adingra, Granit Xhaka and Robin Roefs all on permanent signings,  Fabrizio Romano today confirmed the Sunderland signing of one very familiar face. The Black cats’ latest acquisition and new left back is none other than ‘King’ Arthur Masuaku, former Hammers’ defender, occasional wing back and three-year seasoned Claret and Blue veteran with 128 appearances for the Irons.

King Arthur returns to the PL to go head to head with Jarrod Bowen

Which will have opposite number Jarrod Bowen licking his lips in anticipation of a match up against the left back: Matsuaku was decent going forward but always had mistakes in him and the Hammers’ captain should seriously relish the chance to take on the DR Congo international who now at 31 probably doesn’t have the same pace as when he departed West Ham for Turkish side Besiktas on loan initially in 2022.

Just somebody warn whoever is between the Hammers’ posts to watch out forArthur’s mis-hit crosses.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Arthur was great going forward but a terrible defender.

Seems as though Sunderland are trying to do what Ipswich did last season, namely buying virtually a new team in the hope of avoiding relegation. I reckon the outcome will be the same come the end of the season.

That miss hit was a stunner!
Always had a soft spot for Masuaku..but never quite lived up to his potential.
