Just when everyone else was looking the other way, West Ham have launched a surprise move for a goalkeeper nobody was talking about—according to Fabrizio Romano.

The well-known football insider revealed within the past hour that the Hammers have made an official offer for a keeper—but it’s not one of the two names dominating recent headlines.

While Leicester City’s Mads Hermansen and Japanese stopper Zion Suzuki have soaked up most of the attention, West Ham have reportedly submitted a bid for Brazilian goalkeeper John Victor instead. The 29-year-old, who currently plays for Botafogo, featured in the recent Club World Cup and is also said to be on the radar of Everton and Galatasaray. Manchester United have previously been linked to the player as well.

West Ham have publicly denied making a formal offer for Hermansen, and until an hour ago, Suzuki was thought to be Graham Potter’s top goalkeeping target.

Romano broke the news on his X account, posting:
“West Ham submit formal bid worth €8m for Brazilian GK John Victor from Botafogo. Galatasaray and Everton also keen on John Victor after Man United monitored him in the recent months.”

It’s an unexpected move from the Irons— who had revealed their goalkeeper search was set to kick into action this week.

6 million release clause apparently. Maybe a no brainer at that price if he is indeed any good.

Yep, smoke and mirrors. 1 inbound player and 2 weeks to kick off.

    Sullivan back at the helm

Hermansen £21 m…..Victor £8 m….Errr ok….Just to sweeten the pill…The foxes fans are not too bothered about losing the dane..Check out some of their fan sites….So even tho Victor is a lot cheaper and we swerve the dane…Perhaps we have dodged a bullet?…..Love transfer windows…..When is Wilson gonna be unveiled?….Will he be wearing an Antonio mask?…..Nothing to see here …Move along….

The latest ‘Sully special’. Extremely cheap and too old.

In 15 days the season starts and we are 1-2 central midfielders, a striker that fits Potter’s profile and a goalkeeper short. We definitely cannot look to let Pacqueta go or letting anyone else leave without a ready made replacement. Not exactly the greatest preparation for the new season especially after the one we’ve just had

    2nd division standard lower league

A low cost alternative always puts pressure on selling clubs as the window moves towards the end. If, like Leicester, you need the money do you consider dropping the price – or turning some of the deal into add ons – rather than risk the economic consequences of failing to sell. Many on this forum consider the pressure on us – that we are losing opportunities. At this point it’sthe reverse. If West Ham walk away from Palma or Leicester do they have a back up buyer?

Stick with Hermansen, a much better long term investment. Man Utd, Everton and Galatasaray interest is no recommendation.

All to do with the price nothing else

  • Timbo says:

I’m guessing one of the main attractions is that he’s alot cheaper than the Dane.

What happens after this kind of rumour comes up so far in this window? Nothing.
Seems like flooding the media with vague links and rumours is all there is.
Distracts us fans from the facts that nothing is actually happening.
When we have been serious like with Pelligrini and Steiden it was a link and then progress until completion. Now nothing, it’s all smokescreen it seems.
One transfer, one free so far.
