There’s probably only two clubs in the world who can turn down any offer for one of their players – Real Madrid and Barcelona.
So when I read the morning reports that Arsenal were interested in making an offer for Reece Oxford it wasn’t one that saw me slip on my fan head and shout “OH NO. NEVER”
Given the right offer West Ham – like virtually every other club on the planet – would sell but such was their determination to beat off interest from the north Londoners, United, City and Chelsea before Reece signed his first pro deal it would be for a lot more money than the £8 million being mentioned.
After all this is Arsenal who value Carl Jenkinson at £15 million for crying out loud.
I would sway towards the view that there is more than a little something in this story given 1) how highly related he is among the big Premier League clubs and 2) the fact that the report came from absolutely nowhere.
It’s always suspect when an in form and in the news player is linked with a move – it’s an easy hit – but Reece has been well out of the spotlight for a while – it’s not one that feels like it’s been dreamt up.
What it does feel like is that someone has planted a word in a journo’s ear and the purpose has probably been to unsettle the player.
I don’t want to be discouraging but I do feel there is a real story here – the big question is whether a realistic offer will be made.
My information is that the club have a price of around £12 million on the player’s head. Personally I don’t expect that to be met BUT this story isn’t going away in a hurry.
Can’t see this happening to be honest. Wenger spend 8-12m (or whatever your personal valuation is) on a kid? I very much doubt it. Oxford good enough? Not yet, he had a great game at AFC but then struggled in the next one and was taken off. He needs way more games yet and to prove he can deal with different scenarios and matchday situations.
It may not go away though, because some will repeat it over and over
No. Not for sale at any price. Why do you think the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United invest in young players like the theo walcotts and Rio Ferdinand of the world? Because those players are going to develop into England internationals and give you many years of service and pay you back many times over during their careers. So its not a case of let’s bump the price up and we might consider it it’s a simple case of no. Not for sale at any price.
Get Jenks out of team and put this class act in at RB. What is Bilic looking at…!!
I’m with you on this one John.
Play him to show how much we want him he is good enough and ready,
I prefer him in the middle to our new captain, talent not just effort
We are not a selling club anymore quote the 2 Daves
Feed enough for me
********, come on he’s worth more than 12 mil to us, if we can keep him in the team for a good few years he could be worth 50, let’s not give that away just for a short term cash injection. We have to hold on to talent, we’re never gonna improve if we sell players when they get better than the rest of the team, we need to keep getting players that improve the team until we have an entirely improved team
