Saints’ interest in wonderkid could have surprising consequences – report

|

With limited funds and player sales required to generate a transfer budget, West Ham have already indicated that pretty much everyone is up for sale except the ‘untouchables’ – Jarrod Bowen, Crysencio Summerville and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.  Possibly that stance might have changed with the news that Summerville won’t make pre-season following his hamstring surgery.

According to todays report in 3addedminutes.com the newly relegated Saints are casting admiring eyes at the Hammers’ Brazilian Luis Guilherme as they look to do battle in the championship next season. Guilherme has not featured much this season although has given glimpses of his pace and talent when deployed from the bench.

According to their article: “Southampton eye swoop for West Ham United’s Guilherme” and then continue that “Guilherme, 19, could be seen by Southampton as someone to boost their attacking department..”

It would seem clear that the Saints have targeted Guilherme as one to go after in the summer window .And what of the £20 million-plus fee required by West Ham?  The report suggests that there’s a solution:

“West Ham swap deal for Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on the cards”. Much depends on Graham Potter’s willingness to sanction a Guilherme sale if he decides to proceed with the rumoured Mohammed Kudus disposal.

If the Irons do sell Kudus, West Ham would then be without a fit left sided attacking player if the proposed ‘Guilherme – Ramsdale’ swap, mooted above, were approved.

Highly speculative. However West Ham clearly have zero budget and a goalkeeper to compete and cover for Areoloa will be needed once veteran Lucas Fabianski’s contract expires next month. A case of ‘3addedminutes’ taking two plus two and making five, we think: Certainly an answer to both clubs need for recruits, akin to solving West Ham’s goalkeeper succession through the law of unintended consequences.

But – stranger things have happened. It would certainly solve one of West Ham’s recruitment problems but you have to ask yourself whether Graham Potter would  sanction a Guilherme deal so soon after stopping the youngster leaving in February.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Maybe potter can go to Southampton rather than Guilherme
Why he doesn’t give this kid a chance is beyond me. Kudus has been pretty poor most of this season so can’t really do any worse. But it sums up how clueless Potter is. By keeping him we are gonna be dragged down to new lows

Fabianski should be offered a one year extension..

Disillusioned Matt offers a tastey squad in his comment above. I thought of trying to squeeze Bowen in to my pick but the only change I’d make is remove Noble from the subs bench and replace him with Lomas for some midfield tenacity & leadership if he had to be brought on from the bench.

Another good blast from the past was Freddy Kanoute but obviously not an all time great. When he was at West Ham the club did what it usually does of making any striker lose his goal scoring knack. When he went on to Seville he won loads of Cups while scoring loads.
    Eg 30 in 2006/7 followed in subsequent seasons by 26, 23, 15 & 21

Selling Guillherme would be madness. A Loan with NO option to buy maybe, but not sell.

We need a left sided player. His value is also only likely to go up.

If we sell him to Saints, he will blast the Championship and then become a big profit for Saints when they sell him.

For me we keep him indefinitely and either use him or loan him to ready him for 1st team the following season.

Potter has proven himself useless and so will probably sanction the sale of Guilherme for cheap . Potter’s knowledge and understanding of players doesn’t go beyond Brighton cast offs . It’s going to be a painful transfer window for Westham fans .

If they want to loan him to Southampton without any obligation to buy, fine.
If Southampton want to buy him for £30m, fine.
Southampton see him strengthening they’re attack just what whu need.
Goalkeeper from Liverpool or Burnley are better options than Ramsdale.
Guilherme is a whu player and has backed it up with his comments.
Why are there so many clubs wanting this young lad? Answer has great Prospects.
Time to link him up with up and coming academy players.

Agree we need to keep Guilherme and loan him at most with no obligations. We have protentionaly a world class player at the club for very little outlet. (Remember Neymar, turned him down at £30m)
100% the type of deal we should be looking at. Keep him at the club a couple of years, then sell for massive profit.
