Sam and Sir Trevor in disagreement

|

Sam3Sam Allardyce disagrees with Hammers legend Sir Trevor Brooking that England will again be World Cup winners in their lifetimes.

There’s only a few years between the pair at respectively 59 and 66 but they couldn’t be further apart in their assessment of the situation.
Brooking – soon after his retirement from the FA – declared on the back of his newly published autobiography : If we maintain our progress in the development of young English players, I believe we could win the World Cup again in my lifetime. I wouldn’t have said that a decade ago.”
BrookingAllardyce, however, simply can’t see it happening and speaking in the Daily Express declares: “The FA made a massive rick when they allowed the Premier League to break away in the first place. It was a massive mistake.
“And the consequence is we have the biggest football brand in the world but we won’t win the World Cup in my lifetime.
“It was Sky driving it all – it could have been done with the FA on board and leading it. Now we are not doing enough to develop young players.”
He supports Gereg Dyke’s proposals for Premier League B teams to compete lower down the pyramid but feels his attempts to increase the quota of “home grown” players is these days a complete red herring.
He said: “Don’t forget the home-grown rule won’t make any difference, because foreign coaches with no affinity to this country are filling in all our academies with players from their own countries – French, Spanish and now South American.”
I’m sure Sam and Sir Trev won’t fall out over this one!
