Sam Allardyce still wants the England job despite being appointed Sunderland boss only hours ago.
He was interviewed for the England job back in 2006 when Sven Goran Eriksson left, with FA bosses eventually opting for Steve McClaren.Writing in his new autobiography Big Sam which has been serialised by the Sun, Allardyce still believes he is the man to take over England when Roy Hodgson vacates.
‘I should have got it and, as I’m a far better manager now than I was then, I believe I should be in the running whenever it comes round again,’ he said.
‘Being a national team boss intrigues me. I’m ambitious and I still want the England job but I have less chance now even though I’m better equipped to do it.’
Allardyce says he had a meeting with then captain David Beckham in Madrid to try and canvass support from within the squad, claiming: ‘He could see I was serious and I think I left having convinced him I could do it.’

Sam as England manager? Don’t make me laugh. The only ones who would vote for this would be Faroe Islands and San Marino as they would have a chance of a win against us with Sam at the helm.
Sunderland have been daft enough to hire him in a fit of panic and this has made the man even more deluded than before.
well I guess we’ll never know what allardyce could achieve with better players because now he is Sunderland manager and he only has crap ones to work with. Ha ha. Is there any West Ham news about by the way? I’m getting fed up with reading about The Sunderland manager.
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha, I think my pants just fell off !
About time we had a “joke of the day” section on here.
