Savage confident for Hammers season

SavageRobbie Savage may not be everybody’s cup of tea but his latest predictions will certainly cheer the Hammers fans worrying about the new season after some average displays in the build-up to our campaign.

The Daily Mirror columnist pops up here, there and everywhere over the  course of the  season and he hasn’t always been flattering in his thoughts on the Irons.

This time, however, he reckons the worst is behind manager Slaven Bilic as he gets set for the big kick off next Sunday at Old Trafford.

The former Manchester United youth player insists that the club are set for a more than reasonable season declaring: ” Much as the Hammers recruitment last summer was poor, they have pulled off two of the best deals of this window by bringing in England keeper Joe Hart and Javier Hernandez,”

He adds: “And after the teething troubles of moving into their new home last season, the worst may be over for Slaven Bilic. I fancy them to inhabit the top half. Verdict: Bubbles flying high 8th.”

  1. Great ; I’m hoping for 6th . Must keep Lanzini . No pundits seem to be backing him . For me it’s a must that we qualify for Europe . Top 8 would be a failure .

  2. I think talking about failure if we are 8th is wrong. We still do not know how well the team is going to gel, if we are going to have significant injuries at crucial moments – or not – plus all the other parameters (other teams, refereeing, etc). The only mention of the word “failure” is in my opinion unfortunate at this stage. It sends a pessimistic message, it puts unnecessary pressure, and it sounds like the type of language used in “must win” clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern, where any season without a trophy is a catastrophe. West Ham is still a growing club. Give time. Take time. Unless you would rather have a soul less club such as PSG ? Neymar, and this and that. But what is that club’s and team’s identity ?

Let’s just take our time to see how the season goes and enjoy the games, won’t we ?

  3. Anything 8th or higher would be a good season for me, I would take that now COYI!!!

  4. Does anyone care what Robbie Savage thinks? Does his opinion have any value, apart from to himself?

  5. Top 8 would be a failure bahaha
We are west Ham Kevin, you seem to think we are bigger and better than we are.
Me,i will take the season as it comes. If we finish Top 8 brilliant,if we finish lower then thats how it goes.I wont be crying in my beer over it.

  6. As any blogger regular will tell you, if he says nice things about West Ham he is knowledgeable and well informed, if he slags us off, and God forbid predicts we will lose, then he is an overpaid ex footballer who knows jack. This week he is the former.
