West Ham beat a woeful Leicester City team at the London Stadium, and ordinarily, that would be nothing to boast about, particularly considering the snooze-fest display.
But during this wasted season in the wilderness where the Hammers have looked rather unconvincing ourselves, we’ll take it.
A clean sheet and back-to-back wins will have done everyone associated with the club the world of good. It’s also nice to move up a place in the Premier League too. The fact that the victory lifts West Ham above David Moyes‘ Everton team also has its benefits, as does the eleven-point gap to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
There wasn’t much to write home about following a game which the Hammers won comfortably without getting out of second gear. It was clear the players found it incredibly easy against the lacklustre Foxes, as evidenced by the likes of Jean-Clair Todibo and Edson Álvarez trying to slalom through the away side’s defence.
Perhaps Potter could have been more adventurous for this game, but he really didn’t need to be. Another clean sheet and a chance to climb the table ahead of an eleven-day break was probably the right decision because it brings a bit of stability.
Aaron Cresswell was man of the match for me, and even at his advancing years, he found the whole affair to be like an easy training session.
Newcastle next on March 10th, where one suspects it will be a very different challenge.
Yes it was dull, but at least we cruised past them and got the win and the clean sheet.
I think Potter didn’t want to get them in 5th gear this time because we didn’t need too, beretter to take the 3 points and not get any injuries for the Newcastle and Everton matches.
Credit where iis due, Aaron Cresswell was by far the best player on the pitch. He has been a mature and calming presence in the back three since getting back in the team and a great voice at the back helping Ollie Scarles development no end.
Yes it was boring but Liverpool were boring yesterday
Plenty of rebuilding to be done in the next two years – we’ve wasted 100 million on aging players and gambles Wan Bissaka and Soler (occasionally apart). Summerville will come good given a run
Here’s to being in the Prem next year … tiny acorns juj
