Segregation issue solved!

familyWest Ham believe the segregation issue which caused so many problems during the Watford game has been solved with an greement that six rows of seating instead of the present three will be introduced for forthcoming games.

This is the first positive outcome between the club and operators as intensve talks go on to bring an end to the issues which have bedevilled the opening games at the stadium.

ClaretandHugh has been told this morning that the decision has been made and could even be introduced for the match against Accrington Stanley!

A club insider also revealed that any fans who are uhappy with their current position in the stadium should apply to the ticket offie for a move as already we those making contact are being relocated when possible.”

He added: “We have an agreement that the gap between fans will be upped to six rows of seats and the migration policy is ongoing as we try to accommodate fans in areas more to their preference.

“By contacting the ticket office they have the chance to hopefully take adavantage of the process in which we continue to be involved.”

  1. And some kind of cover, so that it becomes that much more difficult to get through the six rows…

  2. Well there you go,a bit of constructive talk between the parties involved & things get sorted out.As will all other issues if fans stop spitting dummies, throwing tantrums & shouting this is the end of West Ham.Wallies.

  3. I understand this may not be the majority view on this site but nevertheless I believe it’s appropriate to ask the question. Why the hell in the 21st Century is “SEGREGATION” such an issue.? I’m a lifelong Hammer but if I happen to find myself in the vicinity of a Watford fan I shouldn’t feel the need to punch him. I reckon it’s the attitude of football fans that needs to change, then the attitude of the stewards would he irrelevant.

    • Why would it not be the majority feeling on this site.Have you ever read anything on here from anyone saying how they want a scrap with opposition fans.I haven’t.But the simple fact of the matter is we have some fans who do want to interact, fight, abuse opposition fans. All clubs have this minority. To not have segregation would be suicidal even though it is sad to say it.

  4. Can someone Answer this question:
At Upton Park away fans were all in one place, so why was it at the Watford game they was split into 2 sections as some was in the lower stand and some in the upper stand.
Surely it would have been easier to “Police” the trouble and protect the away support from the Minority of Idiots who want to “Interact, Fight, and Abuse them.?

    • It’s because of the concourse arrangement. As the lower tiers and upper tiers are all served from one concourse level it’s impossible to have away fans in lower tier and home fans in upper tier because they would have to share the same concourse area when entering, leaving, or getting a beer at half time.

  5. Agree with Eddie above but someone has to say it, football is a failure as a sport in the 21st C if we still need to segregate fans. Was ok in the Roman Colosseum but there’s a real problem now, a cultural problem that needs to change. People who can’t yell their guts out for their team without punching the next bloke are the issue, not the stewards or the seating arrangements. If you want a fight, go elsewhere.

  6. Segregation sorted with a plastic chair wrap? Ok it doubled in size but if fecking idiots want to scrap with away fans it will not stop them…. Lifetime bans would!
Also a fair percentage of fighting and abusive fans are not targeting the away fans but their own. I saw a fight between one STANDING West Ham fan and one sitting West Ham fan with his kid which I find even more disgraceful! Just because the guy with his kid asked to be able to watch the game which he had paid good money for the STANDING plank in front of him let rip!!
It is against The law to stand just because they turned a blind eye at Upton Park don’t throw your toys out of the pram because they are now enforcing that law…..
I would rather the London Stadium to be a family friendly atmosphere than a mass brawl every week just for the sake of a few mindless fools making a bit more noise due to a heavy intake of alcohol!
Otherwise just segregate them (but not with plastic chair wraps)

    • The attacks that I have seen were by the ‘sitter’ who attacked the ‘stander’ because they wouldn’t sit down. So some of the SITTING planks need to control themselves as well. I’m not defending anyone – just giving another view

  7. I have always thought the covering on seats has worked well in grounds.I haven’t seen many fans try to get over it.Well actually I did once but he fell over when he was on it.

  8. I do partially agree but the presence of decent stewards would prevent it totally…. As well as a frontal lobotomy for the thugs that decided it would be a good idea to attack the away fans!
It’s not the era that should allow this sorry sort of behaviour, it’s not family friendly at all. I most definitely would not take my kids anywhere near the place at the moment.
And it doesn’t stop the fighting between ourselves that is going to take some hardline stewarding?

  9. Its a start now they need to in force the rules on all
No standing in all sections home and away
Easy for me to say sitting in a bar in Spain but if I was at the game I would want to see as well,
My problem would be my language and as I would not want to offend possible better not going any more,
Can’t help it just loose it when watching our team all to bits,
But that has never made me want to kick the krap out of other people,
Saying that if I was provoked I don’t know if I could count to ten ( get lost at 8)

  10. It’s not a solution it’s like sticking a plaster on a gaping wound, pretty soon it will be swamped in blood. These stewards don’t want to and are not equipped to break up fights, they need to stop treating the UP stewards like second class citizens and need to put them in the seating areas rather than the concourses or elsewhere, they need to find a permanent solution to the segregated areas that is a physical barrier not a human one. They need to employ a football expert with relevant experience of volatile supporters and stadium design that has a track record for solving these issues to provide advice and manage the solution. If our club has to contribute a one off cost to assist in paying for this I believe they have a duty of care in addition to the landlord to ensure we are not at risk, they also need to tighten their security it is useless and is putting 57000 supporters plus all of the staff in and around the stadium at risk. I could drone on more but I am even boring myself with this rant, whatever happened to common sense…

  11. Changes have to start somewhere. At the end of the day we have no clue what is going on behind the scenes really, just sound bites.Maybe we need to all take a deep breath & see what is being done before deciding that things are not moving in a positive direction.Just my opinion.
At the end of the day not every fan has a fear the worst or look for the disaster to happen mentality.
