As if West Ham United did not have enough on their plate with the relegation battle, and Mateus Fernandes as well as El Hadji Malick Diouf being linked with moves away, the Italian press have added to the transfer rumours this morning.
Because according to a report from Rome newspaper Il Messaggero, AS Roma could be set to raid the London Stadium this summer.
Roma Eye West Ham Winger
The Italians are reporting that the Serie A giants are preparing an offer for winger Crysencio Summerville, but only in the event of West Ham being relegated.
This seems to be something of a running theme, and I believe it has very little to do with any confidence that West Ham would fail to keep players if they remain in the Premier League.
Clubs Smell Bargains If West Ham Drop
It appears to have far more to do with rival clubs sniffing a bargain, as if relegation would automatically mean a hefty discount on every player.
Personally, I do not see it that way. That said, a London Stadium spokesman has told Claret & Hugh’s Sean Whetstone “If we go down they may all want to leave”.
| Player | Summerville |
| Competition | Premier League |
| Games | 27 |
| Goals | 5 |
| Assists | 1 |
Hopefully West Ham win this weekend against Brentford and pile the pressure on Tottenham Hotspur.
As we saw last summer when the Hammers had to fork out the best part of £40 million for Mateus Fernandes, relegation does not automatically mean players become available for bargain fees.
If West Ham do go down, we would still hold valuable assets—and any buying club may find the asking prices far higher than expected. . . but at this club, you never know?
What would make Roma think joining them would be an upgrade on playing in the Championship?
Surely , clubs are eyeing a bargain if Spurs are relegated
Yeah – injury prone, mercenary, bottle-jobs going cheap!
