Shake hands and say goodbye | Hammer will call time on career

‘More than likely’, the report reads, that this Hammers stalwart “will change clubs this summer rather than sign a new contract with West Ham.”

That’s the verdict from Czech site Infotbal who claim that Vladimir Coufal at 32 will depart this summer, with two Premier League clubs in the hunt for his signature. Coufal, you may recall,  was the subject of a last ditch deadline day bid from Fulham and we know that David Moyes’ Everton are in the hunt for his services- along with those of international colleague Tomas Soucek.

Coufal has become a bit-part player at London stadium now that centre backs Konstantinos Mavropaos and Jean Clair Todibo have returned to fitness: Coufal did a brilliant job as a stand – in right sided centre back when called to assist during Graham Potters’ first few games. Aaron Wan Bissaka (main pic) has taken over and nailed down the right wing back role and Coufal, frankly, whilst having been a loyal servant and trophy winner at West Ham, doesn’t get up and down the wing like he used to.

Coufal - time to shake hands, say thanks and walk away

The Czech news site may claim that “All options are still open, but he will most likely head for a new engagement”: I’d be very surprised to see Coufal offered an extension to his contract. He has been a fantastic loyal player for the club but sometimes it is just time to suspend sentimentality, shake hands, say thank you and walk away.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Don’t put a picture of AWB as the featured/first image then 🤦🏻‍♀️

  • Taffyhammer says:

Maybe he doesn’t get up and down the wing like he used to because his talents are now recognised in different positions in a much more organised team.

Definitely not an ageing one trick pony.

  • Munky says:

We need to get rid. No excuse for blackface and it reflects badly on the club.

  • Toby says:

Just so you know mate that’s Aaron Wan Bissaka in the photo used with the article not Vladimir Coufal 👍

Click bait at its finest my friend, why I hardly bother with the site these days. Totally unnecessary

“Aaron Wan Bissaka (main pic) has taken over and nailed..” Thanks mate.

  • Kenny Irons says:

Been a good servant, but we need to move him on as younger, new blood is needed.
Over the years, West Ham have been the kings of “Sentiment” offering new contracts to players past their sell by date or not good enough. As we know, this is generally the cheap option which is right up our alley.

  • Tony Pezzolesi says:

Why show a picture of Aaron Wan-Bissaka in your headline? Coufal is the wrong side of 30, cannot play the wing back role and is out of contract. It will be the right decision for both parties for him to leave

  • Matt Bramhall says:

He’s 32. If he gets a move it will be because he will want a three year contract. He has been a decent player for us but how many believe he would be useful to us at 35? The fact that Moyes is interested in him shows how little he has learnt in terms of building for the future.

  • Lokfaen says:

If he leaves we will need backup on the right side with only AWB (and Mavropanos once haha) in our squad. If Emerson leaves and we get injuries on LB, CD then AWB might need to switch sides

    • Phil says:

Please, can we stop all this ‘ loyal servant ‘ rubbish !! He gets paid , like the rest of them thousands of pounds a week. He’s an average player who can’t really pass or cross a ball. These players are average at best and they know where their breads buttered. So if Moyes wants him and Soucek , off they go !!!

      • Lokfaen says:

Never said anything about loyal servants, just pointing out he would need replacement – which will come at a cost…

      • Grant says:

Coufal is a very good crosser of the ball

      • bonzosboy says:

perhaps you should check his ‘assist’ stats, compared to other players, in recent seasons. fair enough to make a point for selling him but a little perspective may help. he has been a ‘loyal servant’ as he has never moaned about being usurped, always tried to be his best (even if it wasn’t enough on the day) and loved the fans and the club. also, “average” footballers don’t play in the PL. average players don’t even make League 2. people like me and you. so, i’m gonna give your comment an average mark
