Sheffield United 2 West Ham 2
Areola:5 Made an excellent save which was subsequently ruled offside but he wouldn’t have known that. Great save on 44 mins unfortunately fell to Ben Brereton Díaz who scored. Missed the ball and conceded a penalty by fouling McBurnie.
Coufal:5 Looked to have found his competitive edge again. Good work in the build-up to the Hammers opener. Red cared in the 96th min which was stupid.
Mavropanos:6 Still looked nervous and took less risks as a result. Good block on 60 mins as Sheffield swarmed all over West Ham.
Zouma:5 Clumsy tackle gave the Blades a freekick from a dangerous area. Rescued Mavropanos on once occasion. Lost his man in the build-up to Sheffield’s goal. Picked up an injury but battled on.
Emerson:6 Defended well enough but not at his best going forward. Missed Paqueta and had to deal with a tricky customer in McAtee. Brewster’s tackle on him was an assault. Lucky he doesn’t have a broken leg.
Soucek:6 Neat flicked header set-up Ings for a half-chance. Made a number of blocks and his clearing headers blunted The Blades long throw-in strategy. Unfortunately his passing was awful but was offset with his defending.
Ward Prowse:6 Took and excellent booking for the team on 41 mins. Really disappointed with his lack of creativity and the midfield partnership with Soucek is poor. Dispatched the penalty to make it 2-1 with the precision of a specialist.
Fornals:5 Poor old Fornals. His attitude is beyond question but he’s lost his mojo. Will not have easier opposition to play against.
Cornet:6 Not too bad at all, immediately tried to link up with Coufal. Made a horrendous pass when he was in a great position. Made amends shortly after by scoring.
Ings:8 Played behind Bowen. Excellent build-up play set up Bowen for a chance and was instrumental in Cornet’s opener. Wonderful turn won West Ham a penalty.
Bowen:5 Miskicked a sitter on 40 mins. Not massively involved in the game. One game too soon.
Substitutes
Johnson:7 Was subbed on in the 69th min. Played in central midfield and provided more attacking intent than either Ward Prowse or Soucek and was instrumental in the build-up to West Ham’s second. Incredible.
Mubama: Played out the last 30 seconds in place of the impressive Danny Ings.
Fabianski: Subbed on in the 101st min to try and save a penalty which he couldn’t.
