Sheringham to play again at nearly 50

|

Sheringham1Former Irons striker and attacking coach Teddy Sheringham is set to play in his side’s Herts Senior Challenge Cup match against Welwyn Garden City after registering himself as a player.

According to The Daily Mirror, the former Manchester United and England striker will come out of retirement to play in Wednesday’s game at the age of 49.

Sheringham, who hung up his boots in 2008 after a short spell with Colchester United, enjoyed a 25-year playing career before going into coaching with West Ham.

Despite his age the former Manchester United striker resembles something of a spring chicken compared to ex-goalkeeper Dave Beasant.

Beasant, who joined Stevenage as goalkeeping coach in 2014, was named as an unused substitute during last season’s play-offs at the age of 56.
