TWO steps forward and one step back at West Ham United.

No sooner have the club announced with gushing pride the signing of two new strikers – Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe – than news has been broken by the NY Times of a possible departure for West Ham’s Callum Wilson.

According to the article, less than five months after joining, West Ham’s veteran forward, who is on a pay to play deal with just a one year contract, is now actively involved in talks over leaving.

Wilson now reported as in talks to quit West Ham after four months

According to well connected West Ham journalist Roshane Thomas:

“Callum Wilson is in talks to leave West Ham United just five months after signing for the London Stadium club.

The 33-year-old only joined West Ham on a free transfer last August under former head coach Graham Potter, after leaving Newcastle United. Wilson signed a one-year deal with West Ham, a contract that was heavily incentive-based.”

It seems almost exactly as Claret and Hugh wrote last year, a fit and firing Callum Wilson on such a short term deal at London Stadium was bound to be the subject of Premier League interest unless West Ham dealt with his contract situation.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

He’ll probably go to Leeds as back up
And you know what that means the last game of the season !!
Mind you it’ll be all over for us in April

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by Wilson and he’s proven me wrong but he failed his audition on Saturday like so many others and no room for sentiment as he’s still an injury waiting to happen. Praying we get Charlie Cresswell and Thiago Gabriel. Need to get Kante and Earthy involved somewhere in the 11 and promote the likes of Orford, Fearon, Mayers and Golambakis. Where’s Marshall too? At least the kids care for West Ham. Kilman, Mavropanos should never play for us again. Summerville better off the bench as pace his only real asset as he has no end product.

Agreed with this , Casey can come back too, play him against QPR.

Agree with you mostly AJ. But I feel that Mavropanos and Kilman are worthy of the prices we paid. They need proper coaching as do the rest of the team. We now play as if we are in some kind of U23 shadow league. We look like we are a development squad going through the motions unconcerned about the outcomes and not knowing what to do about getting any better.

Coachless Moyes, Spanish Lopetegui, painful Potter and now solitary Nuno. Little wonder that the playing staff lack any direction or sense of purpose.

Would be good to keep him until end of the season, especially from the bench.
We don’t know what the two new signings will offer in terms of goals, as we don’t create many chances. Also, I read a Lazio fan said the Argie fellah was good technically, hard worker but not prolific, although he said was sorry to see him go.
As things stand and the state we are in I think we need to keep Wilson until the Summer – if we go down, will be mass exodus, anyway !

If you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen.
New signings are giving him concern regarding playing time.
    Understandably, no play, no pay.

  • Dudley Tyler says:

Hardly surprising. When he came in on his deal with West Ham’s lack of forwards his pay deal was likely to be very lucrative for him. Now we’ve signed two strikers he’s presumably (and hopefully) going to get less games and therefore less money. He hasn’t been the disaster many predicted but equally the amount of minutes he’s played is probably indicative of his injury risk.

  • FiskyBoy says:

I’ve been surprised (impressed) by him and wish we would have signed him 5 years ago. I would definitely keep him as a back up/ impact substitute but understand if he wants to leave, especially if he’s on pay per play? I never wanted him initially but he’s definitely grown on me and will be sad to see him go as he has character/personality unlike a lot of our other players. Just hope these 2 forwards hit the ground running, just need a couple of defenders now and possibly a new manager on Wednesday. COYI⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️

Probably has got the hump that he will be third choice now. Will be a shame if he goes as would be a useful option off the bench and still has great instincts around the penalty area.
