“Short Lived Glory” | Hammers Draw Liverpool AWAY!

West Ham will face a challenging trip to Anfield in the third round of the Carabao Cup after their victory over Bournemouth at The London Stadium.

Honestly, it feels like you couldn’t script it, but then again, it’s utterly predictable.

Sometimes, it seems like the footballing gods are against us, and this draw hasn’t done much to change that feeling.

Whilst I’d love to be optimistic about the matchup, I can’t shake the sense that we’ve been dealt a tough hand. Maybe Julen Lopetegui’s narrow win against Bournemouth has left me a bit deflated, as our performance wasn’t exactly inspiring.

Sure, our newly solid defence offers some hope, but I would have much preferred a home game against a lower-league side like Accrington Stanley or even The Dog & Duck pub team.

Hopefully, by the time we head to Anfield, we’ll be riding high after a big win against Manchester City, but honestly… Liverpool away? It’s the kind of draw you could see coming from a mile away.

You didn’t deserve that win tonight goal should have been disallowed . Let’s hope you get stuffed in liverpool

Not that AFC Bournemouth haven’t had disputed goals against West Ham that have taken the points in the past, magical ones in fact. Still good news for Bournemouth you can now focus on the relegation battle you’ll be in.

I love it when non supporters come to our sites and comment. I believe they are all closet Hammers wanting to be like us – Massive and Champions of Europe. 😀

There are some positives. I didn’t think the incredible Fulk did that badly. His movement was was good just no one in midfield to find him when he made a run. The Spider-Man Bissaker was very good also considering he was on the left and not his favoured right. Kilman was also good and has been very consistent so far. Jimmy Summerville looks promising.

  • Andy Stone says:

Strongest team possible for Liverpool which can’t be said about last time where there was an opportunity as they were massively depleted themselves.

  • Ray says:

It was painful. Still lobbing long balls for Bowen to chase, no creativity and not looking close to being a team yet. Still not convinced they are all training together.

i only learnt of the rule last night about teams being kept apart in the next round of the cup last night. with no extra time being played i think for the the good of football in this country we should let the judas six leave and join the euro super league or whatever they want to call it. i honestly believe for the sake of the future of football in our country all clubs and fans of those outside the judas six get together and campaign for them to leave.

The coverage of football by sky/tnt is so biased towards the judas six they will get more money than anyone else so will always spend more to get the better players, then they basically get a bye to the final of cup competitions now. No replays and straight to pens so a lower league club with a slight chance to earn any more money from a replay has that avenue firmly closed to them.
enough is enough….rant over and ….COYI”S!!!!!

    it is a fix

    • Bournehammer says:

Completely fixed, the new “tweaks” have only been introduced to protect the cabal.
Truly disgusting the way the “top teams” are becoming more and more protected.

  • MKYK says:

What a stitch-up. European playing teams can’t be drawn against each other. It all stinks tbh.

  • Tony Marsh says:

The new draw format is a joke. Due to the expanded cl/el there could be fixture clashes. What next? Put the six European qualifiers straight through to the quarter finals and the rest have to battle it out for the other two places? If I was a betting man I would have put money on us to draw one of them.

  • Vince N says:

This cup is flawed any way. Why have the top teams been “seeded” so that they can’t be drawn against each other. It’s been fixed to give the “big” teams the best chance of winning.

  • John Ayris says:

Fix the League Cup to suit the big six, great eh…

There’s an awful lot that’s not good about football these days. Even the shirts looked better in the days before ads.

Liverpool away, would you believe it, well yes I guess I would.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

I was thinking exactly the same Gonzo, there are coincidences in life but when something happens every time it is no longer a coincidence, I didn’t realise the nig teams came in next round, probably because I don’t really think about this cup too much and our previous entries into it, and was thinking after we went through we would probably draw Newcastle away next round, then thr reality was worse the team where we have probably our worst away record Liverpool, Anfield in a midweek game…

The things am still hopeful about is that we haven’t conceded goals to two high energy teams in Bournemouth and Palace and also Lopetegui is a Cup specialist, if we can not concede in 90 minutes we are into the lottery or if we have scored we are through COYI!!!

  • Phi Cutler says:

Lets face it, we always get either Man City Liverpool or Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.
And the draw’s not rigged at all, I mean the big teams do play away, don’t they?

  • Neil Down Under says:

I had no idea that European competition playing teams were seeded.
    What an absolute insult.
Once again, the money men making sure the “big 6” are in it at the death to ensure TV revenue.
The “big 6” often disrespect this competition by fielding youth teams or 2nd teams.
Yes, many other premiership teams have fielded weakened sides, but at least they weren’t seeded.
Why don’t we just give them the money and ask them not to join? Allow lower league teams a real shot at making it to the later stage, and European dreams of their own.
