International week usually shines a spotlight on the established senior stars, but something far more significant has been unfolding quietly behind the scenes. West Ham United’s academy has delivered an extraordinary achievement, twelve players called up for international duty at the same time.

It’s a remarkable testament not only to individual talent but to a youth system that is now consistently producing players capable of performing on the global stage.

The call‑ups span every level highlighting the depth and strength running through the academy.

Two young prospects have already caught the attention of their national teams, Finley Hooper – England U18s and  Isaac Thomas – Wales U18s.

The U19 group is the largest and arguably the most exciting, with five players earning international recognition including  Ezra Mayers, Airidas Golambeckis for England and Joel Kerr, Callum Leacock for Northern Ireland and Rayan Oyebade Greece U19s.

Preston Fearon, Josh Ajala and Finlay Herrick all represented England U20s, while Josh Briggs was called up for the Northern Ireland U21s.

Gabriel Caliste made the Mauritius senior squad, for the ninth time, having made his international debut at just 17 years old in September 2024.

This wave of international recognition reinforces West Ham’s reputation as one of the most productive academies in England, and highlights the progress the club has made.

The academy is doing more than nurturing  players, it’s producing internationals, who hopefully could soon become regular first team selections for Nuno.

I have been a season ticket holder since the late eighties, so experienced the highs and lows of being a West Ham supporter. I previously wrote for OLAS and have contributed to a number of football publications in the past.

What are you talking about? Nuno has given more youngsters a go than the previous managers as far as I remember.
