Sir Trevor on summer signings and Hull

BrookingSir Trevor Brooking admits that Chiekhou Kouyate is the stand-out summer signing at the moment.

The Hammers legend said: “He has energy, he works hard, got good legs, can get up and down and really leads by example.

“He’s a really strong addition to the squad. Hopefully he can keep up the form of the first few games.

“Kouyate uses the ball well and knows when to realise it. Mohamed Diame sometimes went on and on and didn’t know when to release it and in the end lost it frustrated.

He believes Alex Song is an an interesting signing but told www.wharf.co.uk “He hasn’t played much for Barcelona over the last couple of years so we have to get him match fit, but he’s a talent.

“When he’s playing, him and Kouyate will be good as long as he’s the same player he was when he was at Arsenal.”

With the pressure on the Irons to get something from the match at Hull on Monday evening, he said: “They are very good at home.

“Then Liverpool and Manchester United will be tough and by the time we go to Manchester United all their signings will have bedded in.

“From the first six games you always want six or seven points. We’ve got the three and now we need three or four.”
