Sky claim striker talks

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth claims that West Ham have held talks over a deal to sign Gabriel Barbosa from Flamengo this month.

The Hammers are desperate to sign a striker in the January window to provide support and back-up to Mikey Antonio up front, as he remains the only senior forward at the club.

Barbosa is known as Gabigol in his native Brazil and Sheth claims that the Irons have held initial talks over potentially signing him in January.

No fee is mentioned, nor is it clear whether a deal would be a loan or a permanent move, with Barbosa said to be keen to play in England as he looks to make the Brazil squad for the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Barbosa scored 29 goals and registered 11 assists in 43 games in the 2020/21 season and has won a total of 17 caps for Brazil, scoring five times for the national team.

We’ll put this one down as one to keep an eye on in January; the Hammers do want a striker and it appears that Barbosa wants to move to Europe but these talks could just be a fact-finding mission for the Irons.

  1. We have been linked with Gabigoal, for what seems like years now, but Brazillian players always worry me and the fact that he was a serial loanee who left Inter Millan to return to Brazil is worrying.
He’s being linked with everybody right now…
    A player to AVOID!

  2. I see nothing in this guy that suits the way we play, he can only play as a 9, he is lazy does not work hard and does not possess a lot of pace. He does not suit the profile of player Moyes tends to go for. Not for me and again I am putting this down to lazy reporting. I have also seen us linked to Traore from Wolves not sure on him either. The player I do like is El Ghazi, on loan for the rest of the season could be the signing of the window. I am still hoping that we sign two top players a striker and a CB and then 1 or 2 good loans like Digne and El Ghazi.

  3. Lazy reporting without a shadow of a doubt. One person says it and everyone else repeats it. Barbosa and Traore not David Moyes type of players. Moyes only interested in hard working team players not one man show ponies. If they have the ability to score goals then maybe Moyes can work on them and improve their all round game but neither of these two are what we need right now. I can guarantee Moyes won’t be signing either of them.
