Sky wrecks the Bonzo party for millions

|

All of this was lost to TV viewers courtesy of Sky

On a day when Billy Bonds was honoured  and the fans were as emotional as only Hammers fans can be, Sky TV managed to spoil our very special party in a very big way.

Those  lucky enough to be inside the stadium for a great day enjoyed some precious moments  as the great man was honoured.

But those watching on Sky TV were left in misery as a  presenter – whose name escapes me – continued to talk over the special ceremony which was going on for Billy right behind her.

Instead of stopping to allow these magical moments to be shown they was busy gathering Kevin Nolan and Jamie Redknapp’s views on the match – it could and should have waited.

When they did finally pause for breath it was only to take us into an ad break as the ceremony went on unseen by millions watching.

I’ll say nothing more than Sky should be ashamed of themselves for showing such a lack of sensitivity for such a wonderful occasion.

As one of the lucky ones in the stadium it was special Bonzo talking to Alvin Martin who was equally excellent was clearly emotional and full of pride, it was heart warming stuff. Hopefully the club can put some footage on the website for all those who were not able to be in the stadium.

You could see Jamie Redknapp keep looking over to where it was going on whilst she continually babbled on about nothing in particular, he looked embarrassed to me!

Jamie Redknapp usually has something of an embarrassed look on his face…..

It was a choice the editors and directors from Sky made, not the presenter who just follows orders. I don’t want to excuse Sky, and that presenter was actually obnoxious, but let’s put things in perspective. Mind you, I tried to see Billy Bonds’ words on different channels, and it was a no-go. Not Sky, not other channels, and the americans with their NBC sports were even worse, showing ads and then talking about an interview with Solkjear and the upcoming matches in the league. They also have a set up with two ex footballers (Robbie Earle and Robbie Mustoe, neither of them ever pulled up trees as players though) and an equally obnoxious presenter called Rebecca something.

I wonder if there might have been a question of rights involved, because I saw a bloke on the pitch next to Billy, the mic said WHUTV, and that is when the images (and sound) were cut.

Agreed. Especially as all the media have made such a song & dance for the last three years about our ‘new stadium problems’. On an occasion when they could have highlighted the sense of unity & true spirit of the club they chose to waffle. It looked as if they had not even bothered to do their homework & find out how the occasion was being celebrated. If they did find out & then decided they would ignore it – to drone on yet again about the new stadium problems – then it is a disgrace. The presenter was Dalglish’s daughter. Billy probably does not give a toss, but he deserved better.

Bit harsh this criticism. Thought it was covered adequately and can’t see how people can criticise a presenter who will no doubt have had a producer dictating things in her ear. Sky isn’t WHUTV.
