Approaching the business end of the transfer window – at least for late comers West Ham – means that other Premier League clubs are already falling over themselves to bid for the same players as the Hammers have shortlisted, with the inevitable risk of the Irons missing out. In this instance though, the news that Newcastle appear to be heading off after a former Hammers goal keeping target could spell very good news.
Sky have reported that the Magpies are in talks to sign Aaron Ramsdale from Southampton. The one-time West Ham linked shot stopper was not widely welcomed on West Ham’s fan forums, as a thrice- relegated keeper: It does seem he is highly rated by Eddie Howe as Sky report that ‘Newcastle make move for Eddie Howe’s former Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale‘ having lost out on James Trafford.
This could well clear the way for West Ham to secure their primary goal keeping target Mads Hermansen: There was a fear that Eddie Howe’s side were chasing the Leicester City keeper – but news that the Magpies have selected Ramsdale can be welcomed as it makes the Hammers the main Premirr League side in the frame.
Hermansen of course is already well known to the Irons goal keeping coach Casper Ankergren, with the two having worked together at Brøndby.
Combined with Claret and Hugh’s news earlier that talk of the Irons bidding for Sheffield United’s Michael Cooper has been dismissed – and it seems there is a very real opportunity opening up for Potter to land his first choice ‘keeper.
Sounds like you’re almost condoning whu last minute bid strategy.
This doesn’t take into account all the other players Potter has missed out on.
Whu policy down to the T roll on the eleventh hour and continue with lo-ball bids just hoping.
