Slaven Bilic has shown the Irons squad a video of last year’s epic win at Anfield as the ultimate pep talk to remind them just how good they really are.
And he declared: ‘We shouldn’t be afraid of them. To get that good memory and use it in a positive way, to motivate, it can do you no harm.
‘We played them four times and we beat them three times. We all have to produce the same kind of game.’
To compete with them, you have to be versatile, be complete and have a good game. You can’t park the bus and just let them come too easy, 25 metres from your goal, because if they are there too often there are problems.
‘You have to be very lucky to get anything if you play like that. But also, if you attack all the time high on the pitch, they are very capable of breaking through you. So we have to be balanced.’
‘If you are talking about self-belief, self-confidence, boldness, these situations make you stronger. I’ve not maybe had a situation before when we were in this position.
‘But you have them and it’s hard to be in them and my belief in myself, the players, the staff and my ideas are always bigger than the day before.
