Carlos Tevez will be to the forefront of Slaven Bilic’s mind as the Hammers arrive at Old Trafford tomorrow.
The last time we won there was of course in 2007 when Carlos scored the winner and Slav recalled in his London Evening Standard column: “The way we avoided relegation that year was a miracle.”
“It maybe wasn’t quite like Leicester last season but the run that team went on to avoid relegation — seven wins from their last nine games — was unbelievable, especially with the grand finale of winning against United, who had just been crowned champions again.
“I was at home in Croatia at the time. I wasn’t able to watch it live but saw it as soon as I could. I remember it well and think of it as one of the greatest days in the club’s history.
“A victory tomorrow won’t be on that level but it would be an important step for our season to get back to winning ways after four games without success.
“Of course it will be very difficult but we have nothing to fear having already won at Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool this season. It will take another huge effort from the players but they are capable of making Van Gaal think about the present rather than the future.”
Maybe Tevez is available in the January transfer window. We could certainly do with him because at the moment we are in relegation form and we haven’t even put the Christmas decorations up let alone take them down.
