Proud Slaven Bilic gave a piercing insight into his personality as he spoke about Reece Oxford following the game.
He explained: “I told him that any mistakes he made were my fault! We advise him all we can – the players, coaches, me, everybody. He’s a cool guy and hides his feelings.
“He did brilliantly and I am very proud of him. I thought for this kind of game he was an ideal player to sit in front of the back four and he did the job very well.
“He tries to hide his feelings but we are all there for him and he did a great job for us today – he too hould be very proud.”
Discussing the way forward he added: “It was just a start. Yes we beat a team that is fancied for honours but it’s about how you finish, not how you start.
“It was a big London derby and important in its own right for that reason and our record against them is bad so it’s a special win and I feel very proud.”
He explained that he hadn’t been happy with the first half performance adding: “We didn’t deserve to be in the lead. They had chances and dominated but the second half was different.
“We had a good shape and got the second goal. That was excellent. But we can’t play again as we did in the first half. We were slow and not really on it.
” I knew we had that sort of performance in us and we can go on from that. If we can get some luck staying away fro injuries we will be fine. I’m optimistic.”
Don’t it make you feel good …..what an end to the weekend ..buzzing.
Kev it’s not the just the pundits and the press it’s the doom merchants that have been tipping relegation, crowing on about there so called messiah and calling Bilic there 4th choice..We went to the Arses back yard and beat them with skill drive and determination, Matte great to see you back pal!!!
Kind of put’s the Pundit’s and the Press in thier place does’nt it . Loved it . Nice to hear a manager being honest for once , it’s so refreshing .
Apart from all that , West Ham deserved thier win and have thougherly upset the odd’s .
With the extra 10 or 12 points that Chec was supposed to be worth , West Ham have just knocked that down to 7 or 9 , whilst Adrian was very solid .
We still need to improve , but hey , it was our Day and gives us a great start to the season .
I wonder if at the end of the season, Gooners will be saying Chec cost them 10-12 points
And how refreshing that he wasn’t afraid to point out, we weren’t perfect by any means.
Haha,Return of the Matte, lol.I remember on thursday Gobyac on wetpants telling people that we were worse now than we were last season, haha. Now i offically know why i have never listened to a damn word he has said, lol 😀
Matte you are a glory hunter! Lol only joking great to see you’re still with us and enjoying this great day as much as me
haha.. Hi my friends, happy to be here… wepants will always live their entire life in C&H’s shadow… They have such an inferiority complex… 😀
Haha,Matte the figa hunter has resurfaced,ahahaha 😀
ahahah… I went on a spiritual retreat to cleanse my soul in the Himalayas… There I met Sam, now he is a shepard and he has a herd of goats…lol 😀
Oh, now that’s football… Payet is from another planet, Oxord is a great talent with a wonderful personality (he’s only 16!), Zarate has self-confidence… no more “respect the point”, true attacking football… All I can add to this is congratulations Slaven and fu*k you Allardyce 😉
How refreshing and a true reflection of Slav any mistakes young Reece made he would take the blame, such a difference from last year. Loving too that he shows the drive and ambition to criticise our first half performance and express it,no wallowing in self glory for SB. I think he should take a bow all the same.
How refreshing we now have a manager who is prepared to shoulder blame if things do not go well not like the Hippo who was quick to take credit (deserved or not) and quick to blame.
