Slav studies his Toffees defensive options

OxfordAngelo Ogbonna will be fit to take his place at the centre of the Irons defence at the weekend after his heroic performance against Spurs.

That was the forecast from the training headquarters today as manager Slaven Bilic studies his other otions following the injury to James Collins during Wednesday evening’s classic at the Boleyn.

The boss is hopeful that Winston Reid will be fit to return although there remains a doubt after he felt a reaction to his hamstring problem just ahead of the league game against Sunderland.

We were told at that time: “In such circumstances it is best not to take any chances and he looks more likely to return after the Everton game but there’s  chance he may make it.”

The Hammers have looked at the possibility of bringing Reece Burke back from his loan period at Bradford but believe Reece Oxford (pictured above) -who did well against Spurs – is in front of him and he could retain his place should Reid be unavailable.

  1. Oxford is worth a shot and we have Henry on the bench and Kouyate as well, why change the style that worked so well,we never fair well at their place with a traditional defence and Luluka is similar to Kane running the channels,
    Antonio,Oxford Kouyate Ogbonna Cresswell
    Noble Obiang
    Lanzini Payet
    Emineke
Good enough to stop the Spuds it will do for
Give Sakho and Carroll more time to get fully fit
It works better for Antonio as well

  2. I have a feeling we’ll see Kouyte in defence with Ogbonna and Song in midfield.

  3. Give Oxford, Burke etc a go.These kids are our future and a darn lot cheaper than the expensive imports.Oxford is a star in my opinion. It all bodes well for the future of the club.

  4. P.S Just look what is happening at Anfield. Klopp’s young brigade are staring to get results.

  5. PS.PS What is Slav going to do about MacCarthy?

  6. I remember being worried at the start of the season about keeping 4 quality CB’s happy & thinking that the kids would never get a chance… but now we only have 1 fit CB and he was hobbling through the entire 2nd half against spuds

its strange how we seem to get injurys in the same position .. all our forward out at the same time before Xmas and now all our defenders out – We could cope much better if the injurys were evenly spread.
