Slim possability of reduced relegation places

|

If Manchester City were demoted to League Two the Premier League would only relegate the 19th and 20th positions allowing the 18th place currently occupied by West Ham to survive and keep their top-flight status.

While unlikely, the Premier League does have the power to expel teams and it was recently ruled that any such club would have to start rebuilding in the fourth tier. A recent report says: “While no one sees an expulsion from the Premier League as likely, the Football League have recently changed their rules so that any club in that situation must start again in League Two.”

It was announced on Friday night that City had been barred from the Champions League and Europa League for the next two seasons for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. The Premier League are reported to be now considering their course of action after the announcement with a fine and points deduction one alternative scenario to a drop to League Two.

While a drop down to League Two for the richest club in the Premier League seems laughable and unthinkable the concept doesn’t come without precedence,

Glasgow Rangers were forced to start again the Scottish Irn-Bru Third Division following a vote by Scottish Football League chairmen at Hampden.

We need to get points on the board by our own efforts ,,, having said that it would help enormously if Spurs beat Villa today . No easy way out I’m afraid . We are in a place of our own making and it’s up to us to find the key and unlock the door .

Just not going to happen , forget it . Smacks of desperation if we hope for that crazy occurrence .

If West Ham had committed such an offence we would be demoted to Non League status, of that I have no doubt…. And banned from the league for 20 years.. All the Premier teams would have been outraged at our behaviour….

No doubt abut that, David. Even from just a few years ago I can still hear the outrage over the Tevez deal, which I never really understood.

If ‘third party ownership is so bad, how are clubs allowed to loan each other players who can – just by doing or not doing their job with 5% more or less effort – affect results of all the teams around them? Bonkers.

I remember Citeh in League 2 (3rd tier) in the nineties without any help of sanction. I quite liked them then…… SEND THEM DOWN!!

Let’s be realistic. It ain’t gonna happen. WHU will have to improve and compete just like everyone else

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

If what is alleged is true imho they should be relegated not to the third tier but to the conference, Not only them but every club found to be perverting the rules in every big league. They and others allegedly over inflating sponsorship deals so they can pay players ridiculous sums of money, while at the same time offering off the books payments and inducing young kids from across the globe to sign contracts, effectively hoovering up talent only to spit most of it out again… The whole system is imho broken, there should not only be FFP limits but strict limits on the number of players any squad can have and equally reduce the loan market to say 5 players which would stop the loan market being another source of revenue for these big clubs.

Well said 32 , it happened to Rangers from the SPL The realist in me says “Money Talks” however and history shows there are enough officials at FIFA & EUFA willing to take a backhander for their vote or influence . Still we live in hope .

agree wholeheartedly. we have salary caps in Australia for most of (if not all, haven’t checked) the football codes (4) in this country and IT WORKS!! almost every year sees a different winner in all of those leagues and prevents individual clubs establishing a trophy and/or financial dynasty.

try that in the EPL and the bigger clubs threaten to walk away and form a super league of some kind., a la a private kind of champions league.

buying a trophy is NEVER as satisfying or admirable as winning one through a great manager, tactics, building a TEAM of players and a well-stuctured club/board. well done Liecester
