So who are the top men so far

|

CandH’s regular ratings man Niall McDonald hands out his midseason marks on every Hammer

Fabianski: Looks more of a bargain with each match; a really good, dependable keeper 8
Zabaleta: Pellegrini must be credited with inspiring such an improved level fitness and performance from Zaba 6
Fredericks: Found the gulf between Championship and Premier League very wide so far 4
Diop: Looks like he could become an exceptional centre-half with a rarely seen knack of perfectly timing a tackle 8
Balbuena: Took a little while to judge the pace and physical boundaries of the PL, now forming a strong partnership with Diop 7
Ogbonna: Impressed the boss with his attitude after finding himself on the bench; honourable mention for slipping into the side comfortably against Watford 5
Cresswell: Defending competently if unspectacularly; limited forays forwards these days 6
Masuaku: Seems to be preferred for his attacking options; often looks torn between going forwards and staying back 5
Sanchez: Failed to set the LS alight before a very unfortunate season-ending injury 2
Wilshere: I feel for Jack a bit, thrown into a very slow midfield two with Noble at the start of the season before getting injured when we found a much more effective formation 4
Rice: No coincidence that the deployment of Rice in front of the back four triggered the turnaround in fortunes. Calm, composed and controlled. Handled the Man Utd midfield on his own 8
Noble: The skipper continues to do what he does, to the best of his ability 5
Obiang: Solid, unspectacular stuff in general 5
Yarmolenko: A standout performance at Everton helped get the season going. Fingers crossed for a full recovery 6
Anderson: Been highs and lows, but he’s shown enough quality to keep the fans on-side 7
Antonio: Recent signs that Michail is getting some of his strength and energy back; interested to see if his technique is up to the new demands 5
Diangana: Looks an outstanding prospect on the wing, full of confidence and running at defenders 7
Snodgrass: What a revelation! Could quite easily have stuck 2 fingers up and gone back out on loan but instead is firmly in fans-favourite territory. All commitment, running, chasing 8
Arnautovic: Happily no longer Plans A, B and C upfront, we do miss a little bit of his presence when absent 7
Carroll: Limited to some restrained appearances of the subs bench so far, elbows tucked in 4
Hernandez: In recent weeks we’ve definitely been seeing Hernandez and the ball in the box at the same time 6
Perez: Special mention for his brace against Cardiff 4
