Having had plenty of experience in playing against West Ham United’s head coach Julen Lopetegui, our own Spanish deadline day recruit Carlos Soler knows a thing or two about the methods and modus operandi of the Hammers’ supremo. Carlos, 27 joined West Ham after his deadline day dash from Spain having been waiting weeks for the opportunity to cement his move to the Premier League.
Speaking after the dust had settled on a hectic last day, Soler, in his first interview for the club web site whufc.com, showed enthusiasm for coming to London and an excitement at working with the Hammers’ head coach. As the club web site states, the midfielder lined up against the Irons’ head coach’s former club Sevilla many a time at Valencia and is looking forward to being on the same team rather than having to face one of his well-organised sides:
“I’m so excited [to be working with Lopetegui]. I spoke with him two or three times before I arrived here, and I want to play for his team and West Ham United. He is a very good manager from Spain and did a great job at Sevilla, FC Porto, and was with the national team too. I think we can repeat this and have a good year.
“I think his teams are very organised, difficult to play against, and it is very hard to create opportunities against them. His teams are very well set up, attack well and at Sevilla he did a very good job. I think this year could be very special for the Hammers, and we are going to do what we have to do to make this Club even bigger.
I think we can repeat this and have a good year.”
As Hammers fans we are just beginning to see the hallmarks of Lopetegui’s style, three games into our season. Soler has clearly much experience of his own and it is good to hear he is an admirer – we look forward to the growth of West Ham’s style and of Soler’s involvement in our exciting midfield development: Alvarez, Rodriguez and Soler as a three man midfield – something to get excited about and a huge upgrade on last season.
Played 3, won 1, lost 2.
It’s bonkers that I’m chomping at the bit for the next game!
In a world where we’re all so used to instant gratification, 3 minute attention spans (thanks TikTok). Platforms (not unlike this) where we can all espouse our inner football manager, and decry players, managers and board members alike when results are rubbish.
It’d be fair to say it’s been a hell of a journey to get here.
From the club facing financial ruin after the Icelandic debacle, and the current owners stepping up back in 2010.
Thinking we’d hit the big time with a certain Chilean manager, only to realise a season later it might have all been a bit too soon.
Being forever grateful to Moyse for stepping in twice and saving us from relegation, giving us a few great seasons and a European cup.
Now we have a competent DOF, a sporting director who bleeds claret and blue, and a manager who I hope is the final piece in the puzzle that propels us to the dizzy heights of elite European football.
Gods, I love this club. Never a dull moment (discounting a patch or two on the pitch over the last few seasons).
Still think it’ll be closer to Christmas before we see this team start to fly, but not dreading the boxing day game this year!
Try telling haaland we are difficult to play against,,again all talk no action, I’ve been to the last three home games nothing has improved
Early days! Early days! Give J Lo more 3 games to assess whether he set us up as a team that is difficult to play against.
Early days but I’m not I’m not impressed with Soler. Fitness levels shocking and he’s not going to fit into the system.
