SONG TURNS HIS BACK ON CAMEROON!

Song-edited1_3197599The Telegraph is reporting this evening that Alex Song has turned his back on Cameroon and the African Nations Cup squad.

Song, who has been suffering from sore knees, is understood to have taken the opportunity of travelling to Africa to sort out his international future.

He was widely expected to accept an olive branch being offered by Cameroon after his World Cup sending off for elbowing and a three match international ban.

But the Telegraph reports he has turned down the chance to play for his country because he wants to reward West Ham’s faith in him and try to help them secure European qualification.

Song had been frozen out of his national team after being sent-off in Cameroon’s World Cup game against Croatia and was the shock omission from last month’s Africa Cup of Nations squad announcement.

The midfielder apparently believes he was made a scapegoat for Cameroon’s poor World Cup and is likely to announce his retirement from international football after declining the opportunity to play in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Song is also desperate to do everything he can to help West Ham secure European qualification this season and has already made himself a hero of the Upton Park faithful.
