Song’s contract chances – the fans react

Alex Song’s West Ham future remains in the balance after his return from injury.
The on-loan Barcelona midfielder has slowly been coming back to form and here ClretandHugh’s Facebook forum @ https://www.facebook.com/groups/363174467150521/  members pass judgement on his latest display against Villa
songO I really think he’s back to his best after going missing for a few months. Against Villa he was all over the pitch, was one of the first players to be shutting their players down and was always demanding the ball. Had some neat touches of skill and think only thing that let him down was his passing to be fair.
O Song is back to his best but now he’s surrounded by quality players he doesn’t stand out.

O He made some great tackles against Villa but too many times did he try to force something and put the ball in a tiny space that was easily intercepted.

O Don’t think Song is quite back to his best but he is starting to look better and better with each passing game. Decision to be made this summer re. a permanent signing. Think I’d be in favour, for the right price.

O There was one pass he tried too Valencia towards the end of the game which  had come off would have been sensational. I like how he always wants the ball and never shies away. I think by the end of the season we’ll all see what a difference he makes COYI

O Thought Song had a really good game he broke up play and his tackling was outstanding

  1. I think we will get him on a free as I believe his contract is up (please correct me if I am wrong), the only problem I can see will be his wage demands. Would like to have him on a permanent contract but only on a sensible wage.

  2. Tough decision this one.
He did play well against Villa, but Villa are bottom of league and had 10 men….
Think he needs to put in a few good performances against the top teams and get some consistency before we make the permanent decision

  3. Maybe i watched a different game to some on tuesday, i thought too many of his passes were lazy/sloppy. Too many times he gave the ball away with under hit passes. He had his moments of course like everone does. But no way is he at his best yet. We are talking about a player who played for barca’ remember. Hopefully a few more games under his belt i would agree with you all. :–)

  4. Hi Essex.. Don’t always see eye to eye with you..But think on this occasion you have it
    spot on.COYI

  5. He has yet to convince me that he can justify the sort of money he or his agent are likely to demand…

  6. He was sloppy against a poor ten man team in the first half .Improved in the 2nd half but it was not a great performance.
He and Noble were poor first half together. Noble took the bull by the horns in the 2nd half and increased the tempo. Both have watch their tackling as Noble was lucky to only get the one yellow.
Song needs to dictate a game. Apart from Southampton away we have a relatively easy February, but March is going to be hard. The players wanting to stay in the team for the big games coming up have to show it now. Song has these games to cement his place

  7. He won the most tackles in the whole team, created as many chances as Payet barring corners and also had the two highest pass combinations, him to Noble and him to Payet. He had at least four of the top ten pass combinations of both sides

  8. Not there yet . Needs more game time and v villa he held on to the ball to long and his passing was poor , he needs to produce the form he showed at Liverpool last year , he was superb that game, a good show v saints and Liverpool in the cup will go a long way to show how far he’s progressed since his injury , unfortunately it takes time so we have to be patient and not be to judgmentive , I hope he recovers better than noble did , IMO he hasn’t been the same player since his injury under the hippo .what I have noticed about song is that he isn’t up to speed , that’s down to the injury and his recovery . The only cure is to play. It may not be we see the best of him until next season ? On a free and on a descent wage I would sign him .if he shows improvement by the years end .

  9. If he wants to live in London his family want to be happy he should ask for a 3 year contract for £40 K per week ans then everyone will be happy he is not a £80 K a week player any more,
I would let him go and groom Oxford and Poyet to take that role with Obiang doing the job now with Kouyate and Noble,
Lanzini is the must signing and holding onto Payet,
Antonio covers Moses return and again Samulsun and Callum being brought in as next season goes on,

  10. I think we should give him a contract at the end of the season he’s our best central midfielder in my opinion unless we go out and replace him for a better or equivalent player.

  11. Not in the same class as Kouyate who can play any where along the midfield or at CB
And Obiang is about 25 matches short of being as good and then will get better,
Poyet has the potential to be as good just needs a couple of years,
Oxford could be any thing he wants just needs heading down the right channel,
How many back ups do we need and at £80 K he is to expensive and a luxury we can’t afford,
