Talk about bad timing!
Less than 24 hours after West Ham’s accounts for the year showed massive losses and turndown in business – along with all other clubs – comes a story from Football Insider that Tomas Soucek is to be offered a new deal!
This is written despite the fact that:
Tomas Soucek’s current deal runs until 2024 and has a year’s option attached so there’s absolutely no requirement to stretch finances even further when there are summer signings and their wages to be found!
Our own insiders tell us there’s no requirement to do anything at this stage given that and we can confirm the suggestion that Manchester United are interested is not the case.
Our own northern correspondent Terry Robbins reported yesterday that United’s priority signing this summer is Jack Grealish which can only happen if they manage to sell Paul Pogba first.
United – like all other clubs – are in big trouble and the Hammers aren’t in the business of handing out big new deals to players at this stage when they need to scrape the barrel for new signings!
Here’s their current position:
O Turnover dropped £51.2m (26.8%) from £190.7m to £139.5m
O TV income fell by £45m (35.3%) from £127.4m to £82.5m
O Ticket income fell by £4.9m (17%) from £27.4m to £22.5m
O Commercial and sponsorship including corporate hospitality fell by £1.5m (4.6%) from £27.4m to £25.9m
O Retail and shop sales fell by £200,000 £8.7m to £8.5m
O The club published a loss of £65m an increase of 132.3% on the £28m lost from the previous 2018/2019 season.
Such as Soucek, Couval, Rice and Bowen are all in line for new deals but there’s no urgent requirement this summer with new signings and their wages.
Hugh do you know what Benrahma so on? I believe was on £28k while was on loan but imagine it would of gone up when made permanent?
Coufal & Souček i can see getting new deals bc how big of an impact they have had & Coufal is own £30k I think & Souček I can see a swell bc he will have interest. Thought his first pro deal his parents said it was too much money! Rice of course he should be earning as much as Bowen! Bowen is the one I don’t think needs a new deal, his agent worked a massive deal. He was on £60k print triple or more what he was on at Hull then after 30 games he gets £36k a well raise. So £96k is a lot of money imo & of we offload Yarmolenko & Anderson he will be our highest paid player. He has been immense for us but seems a lot for a player who was in Championship just over a year ago. So given Bowen a new deal would be Chicharito money. I think that money be better spent giving Balbuena a two year deal on his £30-40k bc won’t find a better 3rd/4Th CB who doesn’t moan when isn’t playing & comes on & makes a case for starting when does play. Especially of Europe while keeps us from needing to buy a CB can see how Alves does & Balbuena could help him both played in Brazil.
Reward the players who have been doing it for us every game & don’t by £100k plus wage players, structure is good & a lot of players in Ligue 1 & Elsewhere will be cheap & a move from France, Czech Republic or Championship won’t break bank doing or tripling wages.
Always great to receive compliments and very important to feel wanted at a football club. Always a good idea to reward great performances at work in any way possible. Never a good idea to allow resentment to fester as others are regarded as expensive pets and given ‘more’ without the effort of earning that position. We may not have to reward our recent signings, but if they are exceeding expectations it might just be good business to do so.

Talk about a whining whinging club as ours ! Every club in premier down has the same problems as ours with the loss of revenue so let’s not start helping them whinging too. We need a keeper left back mid defensive two strikers minimum in summer if this board has the club and fans and any sort of ambition. Watching Leeds play the way I really hope hammers will one day plus scoring goals too mind shows how luck and a great coach like bielsa can entertain and if given time become a top club. So much nicer than the hated Leeds of past. Let’s get at manure and not play like we did last time in the cup. COYI
oTHER CLUBS CAN READ ACCOUNTS. tHE TROUBLE IS WE ONLY BELIEVE WHAT WE WANT TO BELIEVE – WE’RE NOT THE ONE WITH SUCH A FALL IN PROFITS AND I’M NOT SURE WHY WE WOULD EXTEND CONTRACTS ANYWAY AS WE DID WINSTON REID AND PAID A HEAVY PRICE. HE HAS FOUR YEARS LEFT WITH US FOR CRYING OUT LOUD – HOW WOULD ANOTHER THREE MAKE A DIFFERENCE?.
almost impossible to put a comment up on here now as its splattered with so many advertisers and pop ups it affects my pc.
