Soucek desperate for change in luck

Tomas Soucek is desperate to see the Hammers’ fortunes change this weekend.

The Irons take on Brighton at 2pm on Sunday in a game that they will be desperate to win after a dismal start to the season.

The first weekend saw a defeat to Manchester City before last weekend’s loss to Nottingham Forest.

That game saw West Ham have 19 shots on goal, as opposed to Forest’s 13, hitting the post more than once, and also seeing shots cleared off the line.

Soucek felt that the game saw the Irons create more chances than they ever have before, but were ultimately let down by bad luck, which he hopes will change this weekend when Brighton come to visit.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “We created many chances [against Forest], maybe the most since I came to [West Ham], and we didn’t score.

“This was hard luck for us. But I hope [we will get luck] and score in other games.

“If we played another 90 minutes we still wouldn’t have scored. There was the penalty, I could have scored three goals. Then, we conceded from one chance – it was an unlucky game for us.”

The Irons have a woeful record against Brighton and have not beaten them since 2012, when both sides were playing in the Championship. The last five meetings have ended in four draws and a win for Brighton.
