Tomas Soucek is rapidly being seen as the best Hammers signing in a number of ears by many within Hammers fanbase.
And that is entirely justified as the Czech Republic star gets better and better in the claret and blue with five goals and top performances this term performances to add to the three goals he managed in his first half season.
He’s described as a defensive midfielder but iss a lot more than that – often dominating that area of the pitch and doing more than his share of defensive work.
It’s been said many times recently but with Declan Rice he is now clearly the heartbeat of a team that hopefully – albeit a little late – making its way to the next level.
His ability to move from the back to front and take up great positions was described by Aaron Cresswell yesterday as ” a knack” but the reality is his game is based on energy, vision and and a major footballing brain.
Commenting on his game he said: “I’m ready – when someone shoots I want to be close to the ball and sometimes I can score.
“I don’t know if it’s instinct, but when the ball is going into the box I want to be there and I want to be prepared for those moments.
“This celebration was for Vlad [Coufal], for my Czech teammate. Five days ago he had a new daughter and this celebration was for her. I wish her all the best for many years and this celebration was for Natalie and for everyone because 2020 was hard for everybody.”
Now, with an FA Cup tie at Stockport County on the horizon, the No28 is determined to keep building the team’s momentum.
“It was fantastic,” he added. “The team showed our spirit and our confidence from the first minute to the 95th. We showed that we wanted to win and I’m happy that I could help the team.
“We are proud [of the win] and it’s nice to start 2021 like this so we can look to carry on for all the year. We still should go up in the table, so we will prepare for the next game and be ready for them all.”
Brilliant!
Having got him, let’s make sure we don’t lose him.
This is the attitude we expect from our players.
Onwards and upwards.
