According to Caught offside , West Ham United have emerged as strong contenders for the signature of Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley. The report coincides with other speculation linking Tomas Soucek with a move away from East London as the Hammers look to recouple some transfer funds in order to complete their squad overhaul.

The 23-year-old Dane has been a standout performer for the Scottish champions, attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, including Leicester City. O’Riley’s impressive goal and assist tally of 19 and 18 respectively, has caught the eye of numerous clubs, with Celtic valuing him at £25 million.

Despite facing competition from both Leicester City and Serie A side Atalanta, West Ham are reported to be working hard to secure the midfielder’s services. The Hammers are preparing to make a formal offer for O’Riley as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Irons hope to reach an agreement with Celtic before the Premier League season starts on Friday the 16th.

The acquisition of O’Riley would be a significant coup for West Ham, as the Danish international possesses the creativity and attacking flair to complement the club’s existing midfield options. However, the Hammers will need to negotiate a deal with Celtic and fend off competition from other interested parties to secure his signature.

Funny I fancied this transfer before the window opened, I think he would be a great addition IF… his ability translates over to the prem.

That’s a typical smug, arrogant English posting!
Especially laughable after watching your humiliation at the Euros!
The truth is, O’Riley is probably not bettered by anyone in the English premier league right now, maybe with the exception of De Bruyne and Foden.
O’Riley has proven himself on bigger stages than the ailing EPL. He is a full international and has been man of the match in four from six Champions League games.
So your smugness comes from a distinct lack of education and knowledge, as usual, and also, pie in the sky dreams! Why would he go to West Ham when there are so many bigger clubs clamoring for his signature?
      No chance!

Thanks for this erudite assessment Joe – you seem like a really nice bloke 🙄

Scottish Premier is about the equivalent of English league 1, or maybe championship for Rangers and Celtic. Their national team is even worse 😂😂

mate, i’m an Aussie and love seeing the English get beat, but “humiliation at the Euros” is a pathetic stretch. 2 finals in a row, while you were home deep frying chocolate bars and drinking soft drinks with letters missing from their name. bringing the intelligence quota of your beautiful country down 🤫

Joe west ham are a MASSIVE club they have the biggest following in the uk apart from man utd! We sell out every match at the London stadium and are the 16th richest club in the world!!! Celtic and rangers wouldn’t be in the premier league as it stands as they aren’t good enough! They are an average championship team at best ! West ham will be playing in the champions league either next season or in 2026.Celtic and rangers never make the k/o stages and aren’t likely too either. That’s why O’Riley will be wearing claret and blue this season as he wants to join an elite football club in the best league in the world.

    Absolutely spot on reply Kevlar

    mourinho supposedly in for soucek

if we can get 15m for him that would be an excellent deal

considering he’s got 3 years left on 90k/wk and the most they’d be able to pay would be around 70k/wk (reference zaha), soucek will likely need a 3m sign-on bonus to cover the lost wages

18m deal will facilitate that sign-on bonus

a little money on top for a proper #8 like o’riley would be a very good move

Thought this lad was wanted by Chelsea, to replace Gallagher? If true, he ain’t coming to us. Apparently Brighton in for him too now. Looks a very decent player to be fair.
