Soucek rescues three points and takes heat off Moyes

Soucek rescues three points as West Ham beat Forest

Sixty minutes into the match against Forest at the London Stadium, there was scarce evidence that we were on the brink of witnessing an exhilarating game. David Moyes‘ team had been sluggish and devoid of ideas. It appeared as if the exertions from our midweek game against Olympiacos had taken a toll.

While there were a few exceptions, the overall West Ham squad seemed drained of both energy and creativity. The standout moment the day fell to Tomas Soucek, but his performance had been lacklustre until the moment he scored. It may be deemed unfair to single him out, yet the contrast between his ineffectiveness and his subsequent pivotal role in the game couldn’t have been more pronounced.

Soucek rescues three points to relieve the pressure on Moyes

However, as soon as Soucek found the back of the net, the entire team seemed to regain their momentum. With the score leveled at 2-2, there appeared to be only one likely winner (at least in my opinion). Credit must be given to David Moyes for his substitution. Faced with the choice of substituting Alvarez or Soucek, he opted for the former.

For the first hour, the game proved to be a challenging watch, with the transformation into a classic being a pleasantly unexpected surprise. With wins against Olympiacos and now Forest, the pressure will have eased on David Moyes for the time being.
