According to reports in the Turkish media, Tomas Soucek is considering leaving West Ham and is being chased by Fenerbahçe.
The move comes after transfer talks for Sander Berge broke down when the Turkish club failed to reach a deal to sign the midfielder following the Clarets’ relegation to the Championship.
New head coach Jose Mourinho is reportedly on the lookout for a physical midfielder, and Soucek certainly fits that description. With West Ham close to signing Guido Rodriguez and having an abundance of young talent, the big Czech could be on his way out.
Soucek appears to have struggled to fully adapt to Julen Lopetegui’s system during his two pre-season outings against Wolves and Crystal Palace. While it’s still early days and it’s important not to read too much into a couple of friendlies, Soucek is hardly likely to morph into Andrea Pirlo with another month’s training.
Whether this particular rumour is true remains to be seen, but I’d be very surprised if Soucek is still at West Ham next year.
Rodriguez in on a free, Soucek out for a fee is a method of balancing future books and of making transfer money stretch further.
No pace, no passing ability and a barrier to fast transition. A threat in the air but little else.
Any fee will be good business
the first half is true, the second a tad unfair
It will really be a mistake to let one of our best players go he has done really well for us
Did excellently when he first arrived getting in the box and scoring goals. When Moyes moved him to kiss Rice’s arse it wasn’t to his advantage. Won’t fit Lopetegui’s style, have seen him misplace many simple five yard passes. Would probably flourish under Mourinho and his style of play. If he does go, then I would wish him all the best.
Did brilliantly last season. Was our saviour in several games. Came up with plenty of match winning goals. God knows where we would have finished without him. Be sad to see him go if true.
32 goals in 4 seasons from midfield. Nuff said. I’ll remember him as one of the players that gave me 4 of the best years of my West Ham life.
Great 1st season, plenty of goals, until moyes ruined his game.
shame to see him go.
will do well under mourinho
Please let this be true. I have loved big Tom but Moyes destroyed him in the season we finished 14th and almost got relegated. Since then he’s not been Tom. Moyes gets into your head in the wrong way we all know that. He was our Southgate turning talent into turds. Tom is not a Jlo player but he needs to go for his own sake and banish the Moyes blues
West Ham would miss Tomas’s goals if he left. Whilst he’s not the perfect midfielder, his threat at set pieces are worthy of his place in the team…..plus he has a great engine – one of the fittest players in the Prem.
I hope that when he’s moved on, his replacement scores 8-10 goals a season.
I can’t believe how quickly so many people are prepared to rubbish Thomas. He will never be the technically gifted, elegant midfield general we’d all love to see in out colours, but he was a real soldier, a courageous, hard working, shoulder to the wheel type of player. I’m sure we weren’t so dismissive of O’Neill or Noble when the team struggled over a long period.
Spot on Lance
Soucek goes he will be missed but as many have said Moyes destroyed him like so many others..if he goes i wish him well…a proper professional with the right attitude
Hope for Soucek, this comes about, he has been great for West Ham but not ideal for a possession based side, am not convinced many of our players other than Paqueta, Kudus, Summerville and possibly Emerson are.
Will see over the coming months if we can adapt to that. Feel like this is a transition season where mid table is likely.
he has deteriorated in last 2 seasons despite the goals, but will still be a little gutted if he goes
Tomas Soucek is an absolute diamond, gave his all and literally spilled blood for us on several occasions and has been all over some of the best memories I’ll ever have as a hammer. If he goes, he goes with my very best wishes and sincere gratitude.
Gave his all for the shirt and a lovely fella.
He’s been a great signing & always gave 100%. As said by others maybe not the most talented player but a real lion. Just an idea but could we convert him into a centre back?
