Soucek to Spurs: The facts

By Dave Langton

Football Insider are  claiming – now being repeated across numerous other sites – to have an exclusive linking Tomas Soucek to Spurs.

Not true! That story was first published here on CandH back on April 30 Spurs keep careful eye on Hammer’s contract talks – Claretandhugh

We wrote there was very real interest from Spurs in signing the Czech Republic international, and that they are keeping a very close eye on his contract talks with the Irons.

It remains incredibly unlikely that Soucek would move to Tottenham because the two clubs simply don’t deal with each other and it would take a major change of heart in the Hammers boardroom for a deal to even be considered.

However, representatives from Soucek’s camp have spoken to Spurs about a potential bid, which would likely be in the region of £40m.

There is plenty of interest in the Czech star, as we have reported, and a number of clubs, both from the Premier League and across Europe, are taking a similar line; they are watching developments closely as the summer transfer window nears.

Of course, the window isn’t actually open yet, so there are likely to be plenty of twists and turns in this story yet.

  1. No way on earth we should entertain any offer from the spuds. However much it is. My opinion we shouldn’t be selling Soucek anyway. He supposedly had a poor season because of Moyes management of using him more defensively and not letting him play his game. If they do come him simply tell them we want Kane in part exchange. Exactly like we did when they enquired about Cheikou Kouyate when we had him and they came calling. They wouldn’t deal with us when we wanted Adebayor so why should we deal with them. Works both ways

  2. Yep sell please and get in better boussouma for a start

  3. I don’t think for one second this will happen. Everyone keeps saying he had a bad season last year but we tried him out for maybe 8-10 games in a more holding role and then went back to the previous seasons style. I think teams just got a little wiser to his runs and to marking our whole team on set pieces, but he’s always a menace playing box to box. He probably deserves a pay hike with us, but not a double your money deal like his agents are angling at, crikey those wages and bonuses come out of the overall player budget (plus his golden handshake for resigning, plus his agents pound of flesh) and we need another 5-6 signings minimum, who also need paying (plus signing fees etc etc). If we manage to get those 5 or 6 and get a couple of our top players resigned then we’ve had a good summer in my book.
