Former England striker and Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer has shown some nerve.
After spending the tail end of last season as a chief cheerleader for the “be careful what you wish for” brigade, Shearer has now decided that he quite likes what he sees at West Ham.
Honestly, you couldn’t make it up. The Premier League record goal scorer scolded Hammers fans for daring to dream last season. Shearer joined the likes of Alan Brazil, Sam Allardyce, Stuart Pearce, and Richard Keys in criticising the club for not extending David Moyes‘ contract with the Irons.
It has since been revealed by both Moyes himself and Karren Brady that it was the Scotsman’s decision to reject the offer of a new West Ham deal as head coach.
However, that didn’t stop Shearer and his cronies from condescendingly tutting as Tim Steidten lined up Julen Lopetegui to replace Moyes. Richard Keys labeled Steidten a “sneaky weasel,” while Paul Merson declared that Lopetegui couldn’t win a trophy even if he managed West Ham for 25 years.
Fortunately, Shearer seems to have stopped consuming sour grapes with a side order of bitter, declaring to Gary Lineker last week that he quite liked the look of West Ham’s business. Awkward!
The former Toon striker went even further yesterday by declaring, “It will take a little bit of time to bed all of those players in and get an understanding of where they are, but I would be encouraged if I were a West Ham fan. I’d have pretty high hopes.”
Crikey, quite a nifty piece of reversing from Shearer. Let’s get that man a nice claret & blue kit (complete with a green sleeve, of course).
When did anyone care about anything Richard Keys said his head is so far up Andy Grays arse .
not really that we care about Keys Merson Shearer etc
All of those who supported Dave Moyes I’m sure meant well;
But as with every season we have good and bad starts
Wasnt our best previous season one that started with 6 losses on the spin?
So i backed us for Cups; Caribou and FA and top 7 Leage position
Stuff em all
Sorry but it’s a case of who really cares what ex players think , generally they have little positive to say and if it’s not positive then its usually provocative which has very little point , just like the people who say these things , POINTLESS individuals with pointless opinions, do we really care ? NO !!!!!
I think all at the BBC and Talksh*te saw a different side of David Moyes during the Euros. Argumentative, grumpy, telling people they had no right to comment on tactics because they weren’t a coach, and a complete sense of humor bypass. Plus with his UEFA ‘suit’ on, he wasn’t prepared to join in the fun.
We’ve all seen this side of him, haven’t we?
As you advocate on Hammers Chat 😀 New information should bring about a difference of opinion. We don’t want him to be stubborn and stick to his guns. I welcome Shearers change of heart. Hopefully we will have a successful season and more pundits will change their initial narrow thoughts.
Shearer was an abysmal Manager. His opinions are worthless. I play a drinking game whenever he’s on TV. I’ll take a swig if he says the word Magnificent – guaranteed to get me drunk.
Think Shearer is talking about all the new players coming in that he likes to be fair. Not sure he’s talking about the change of manager. Probably just a matter of time until the pundits like shearer are slagging off Lopetegui and telling us we should have stuck with Moyes. Unless we start competing at the top of the table that is and then they will have to start eating their words
They’re all past it pros. And most of them are.2 bob winkers
I’m sure there’s good reasons why these blokes are currently pundits and not coaches or managers. Maybe it’s their looks and charisma? 😉
Keys, just F O fat boy. How many places has he worked. Total 🔔end. Shearer, just a James hunt!!!!!
I’m 50, and it’s nothing new to have all these people with massive egos who think extremely highly of themselves, and act like no one apart from THEIR top 5 can dare to dream, fans of teams THEY view as lower, how dare they. They are football SNOBS and I’ve NEVER had time for them, sadly even ex players who I actually rated like merson have really annoyed me , how dare you. West Ham have bigger crowds than most , more season ticket holders than likes of Liverpool but as fans we are not worthy in the eyes of these snobs.
