David Moyes is understood to have turned down the chance of making a £25 million bid for Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma.

As is usually the case before things heat up in July and August, agents make approaches to clubs over players that may become available and suit their requirements.

And a source close to the player told us that we are among the clubs  — which include Spurs and Liverpool – to have been approached.

But we understand the opportunity was turned down who is understood to have his eyes firmly on James Ward Prowse at Southampton.

Both players are highly regarded and the Ivory Coast international is out of contract at the Seagulls in a year’s time and a price of £25 million is believed to have been made at the time the Irons were approached.

With Tomas Soucek’s West Ham future very much on ice at the moment, Mark Noble retired and Andriy Yarmolenk gone, the manager is keen to reinforce the midfield.

Ward-Prowse is said to be his priority but the player is under contract until 2026 .

  1. How do you turn down a chance if true to get in this player that Dec already says how good he is for a player 6times overpriced lightweight and only good at set pieces? Like given the chance to get holzik in by kretinsky turns it down . Sorry but for me Moyes won’t be here after next season finishes and krètinsky takes over if he has that attitude of his and knowing players like ward prowse and Nunez and Phillips at those prices and will only go to champions league teams will never come here.

  2. £25mil. for a player in the past year of his contract sounds a lot…..
IMHO Bissouma would be an ideal recruit for West Ham.
Whether he could play with both Rice and Soucek might be a point of debate. but surely a tough-tackling, energetic midfielder has to be on the ‘wishlist’ for Irons fans??

  3. Hm odd one if true. I really rate bissouma and think he would be the perfect rice partner/replacement. 25m seems a bargain to me. Don’t disagree that JWP is also a great player but you ain’t getting him for below 60m

  4. Must be b/s £25m for Bissouma is a no brainer even if you were buying him to sell him on for twice the price. Bissouma makes Brighton tick is a different player to Ward Prowsw but much needed for us

  5. Cant believe this is the case. £25M for Bissouma is a bargain. Sounds like another opportunity missed.

  6. Isn’t he still on bail?

  7. Don’t want to believe this, because surely he is a no brainer? Proven quality in the Prem, strong hard working right in the model requirement, and for half the price of W-P.

  8. Isn’t he awaiting trial for a sex crime? Might explain the low fee.
