Southampton are planning a West Ham raid this summer, targeting three players who are set to leave the London Stadium on free transfers, according to various reports.

The recently promoted Premier League side is reportedly keen on full-back Ben Johnson, whose contract with West Ham expires on July 1st. Johnson’s versatility, capable of playing on both flanks, makes him an attractive option for Southampton manager Russell Martin

Midfielder Flynn Downes, who impressed on loan at Southampton last season, is another target. The Athletic has reported  that Southampton is interested in acquiring Downes on a permanent basis.

Southampton might also be looking to bolster their attack with the potential departure of striker Che Adams. TalkSPORT  have also suggested  that Danny Ings could be a target for the Saints, considering his limited playing time and goalscoring record since joining West Ham from Aston Villa.

West Ham United are undergoing a period of significant change this summer. The arrival of Julen Lopetegui as the new manager signifies a shift in direction. Additionally, several player acquisitions are expected, alongside potential departures of a number of fringe players .

With a new manager at the helm, Downes will likely be given a chance to prove himself in pre-season before a decision is made on his future. However, a permanent exit for Ings seems more likely, as his recent performances haven’t met expectations.

While the Irons might lose three players, the fact that they are not considered regular starters softens the blow.

None of these players are free!

Ings and Downes are under contract as stated and Johnson will require compensation for the club having come through our Academy.

  • Brad says:

Ings is under contract until 2025 and Downes until 2027 so how are two of the three to be considered out of contract?

  • Nightspore says:

Neither Ings nor Downes are out of contract this summer.
