Southgate may do Hammers a favour

|

Gareth Southgate may decide to hand Declan a further rest when the Three Lions head into action against Hungary on Tuesday evening.

Declan mossed a rare 90 minutes for the national team last night as we crushed the Andorra minnows by five goals to take the number scored against them to 25 in six meetings.

It was great news for Hammers fans that Dec was not required for a match which has become a total – and almost – meaningless fixture.

However, it meant that Southgate’s men increased their lead at the top of their group with 19 points from seven games with the Hungary team now in fourth place on 10 points from seven games.

We haven’t been beaten by Tuesday night’s opposition since 1962 and it will be interesting to see whether the manager decides to go in with a full strength team.

Declan may well get the nod but it would be no surprise to see him on the bench given him the opportunity to come back refreshed for the match at Everton.
