Special One Sacked : Mourinho’s words point at Premier League return | West Ham News

West Ham’s beleaguered manager Graham Potter’s troubles just took a turn for the worse. Another candidate for replacing him just took a big leap forward in the ‘plausibility’ stakes.

Two games into the season and ‘special one’ Jose Mourinho has achieved what seemingly he’s been seeking: Turkish side Fenerbahce have fired the former’ special one’ according to reports just out this morning. Following on from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being fired by Besiktas yesterday, clearly the Turkish leagues show a level of ruthlessness which perhaps can serve as an example to David ‘just one more must-win game‘ Sullivan.

Jose Mourino has long since professed a desire to return to the Premier League, many attributing his posturing and unpopular pronouncements on Turkish football as being part of his goading the Fenerbahce owners to send him on his way. He has his wish now but for footballing reasons as his side failed to qualify for the champions league.

Remember the former Manchester United, Chelsea and Spurs’ manager’s prophetic words: (planet football.com)

The best thing I have to do is when I leave Fener is that I go to a club that doesn’t play in UEFA competition,” Mourinho told reporters after being shown a red card in a Europa League outing last October. “So a club at the bottom in England who needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go.”

Nobody’s perfect and many would argue that Mourinho’s magic fairy dust has long since vanished. However for one who didn’t even appear on the list of possible Graham Potter replacements 24 hours ago. I’d expect that will change. He still owns a house in London and would now satisfy David Sullivan’s pre-requisite of being available without a fee.

And compared with some of the ‘runners and riders’ listed, most West Ham fans would welcome a couple of years of Mourinho-orchestrated entertainment off the pitch along with some common sense on it: Few could argue that it’d be a backward step from the predicament in which Potter has placed them.

With Mourinho’s shadow now looming over Graham Potter, the fixture against Nottingham Forest assumes ever more important proportions.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Another hurried decision is the last thing West Ham need and adding another egotistical clown to the mix is not going to change anything long term. Give Potter a shot with the updated squad and if he can’t do anything with the squad he has now, including his own choices, he will be out of excuses. Meanwhile do some in depth, meaningful research into finding potential replacements that do not have questionable history.

All the doomsayers are out tonight.
I wonder what their words would be if potter won half a dozen games, I know what they would say, “forget mourinho and any other possible candidates, we are a possible European team”.
Potter is the man, he is rebuilding, give him a go.

Really? Mourinho takes ‘park the bus’ tactics to a whole new level. You couldn’t find a worse choice for Manager. A outdated dinosaur who would clash massively with the 🤡

The 🤡 usually takes too long before sacking a manager, but now is not the time.

Sullivan won’t pay his wages BUT IF Mourinho REALLY wanted to prove himself and work for what we pay he has to be better than Potter come to that apart from Steve Cooper anyone has to be better

  • K says:

Boring defensive football from Mourinho. No thanks.

  • Steve says:

No thanks! Well past him prime, terrible defensive football and wouldn’t play any youngsters. OK better than Dyche, Southgate and Cooper… but would prefer someone totally different not on this list

    • Suffolkcrock says:

Even the London Stadium is not big enough for his ego. And, as others have remarked, sshe’s really well past his prime!

  • stitch says:

    Why not I say.
If he is at all interested…then let the fun began.
It would be at least entertaining on the side line if not on the pitch

  • John Lattimore says:

I wonder how Alvarez feels now?

  • Maschalagnia says:

Get him in and get that clueless geezer we’ve got in charge out.

Two years of Moanrino would not be bad…like it or not he is the type of person we need right now…a manager the players we have will respect and with his CV i am sure they will buy into what he says…we are in a terrible situation right now and some times like it or not you need a firefighter and a personality that Players will follow

I would prefer young and progressive attacking football, but then again, anyone who will have us really!!

  • Morty says:

He is another dull defensive coach

Please no, Mourinho is a dinosaur, we should be targeting Glasner he has showed he can play the modern game and win things. We have lots of amazing athletes coming in if they happen and a youth team full of promise. I don’t want us to kill the talent with boring football, Glasner gets the fans off their feet with a high energy attacking game, his teams pass and move which is the West Ham Way.

    • Keith Holland says:

What makes you think Glasner would come to us?

      • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Supposedly he is not happy with Parrish selling all his best players and not replacing them adequately.

Other than that no idea if he would or wouldn’t but would be trying for a manager that has shown he can organise a team to get results and improve them as a whole team.

At our club he would have not only a good group of players but also an academy that has a lot of potential.

  • Zahama says:

    ??? Spurs reject ??? LOL

  • Mick Bering says:

Would be perfect for us Martin Bring respect and discipline back And would certainly liven things up and bring fun and interest back to our club

  • Ian says:

Not that I believe for one second that he’s on his way to us, but he asked for a club at the bottom, and there’s no one worse than us now!

  • HammerDan says:

I’d be happy to have Jose….. a clear upgrade on what we currently have!!!

  • Nelly says:

I’d welcome him to West Ham in a heartbeat. No nonsense, wont take any stick from the board, does achieve results and Man Utd would’ve been a lot better of if they had stuck with him. We all know Potter isn’t a right fit, he just seems clueless when the chips are down. Tactically inept. At least Jose has won something and is entertaining.
