Spurs trial may give hint of future

Spurs will be trialling the use of the NHS COVID Pass to verify the vaccination or Covid status of supporters attending our Men’s and Women’s matches against Arsenal this weekend.
Their announcement to supporters follows recent government announcements and the necessity for the Club to begin preparations for the potential of full vaccination against Covid-19 being a condition of entry to large events from 1st October.

• All attending adult supporters on Sunday 8th August will be asked to present an NHS COVID Pass, via the NHS app, to enter the stadium
• Pass will confirm whether supporters are either fully vaccinated or have received a negative test result within 48 hours of kick-off
• Trial follows recent government announcements and the necessity for the Club to begin preparations for the potential of full vaccination against Covid-19 being a condition of entry to large events from 1st October
• It also further ensures the safety and comfort of our supporters, players and staff as we begin hosting capacity crowds for the first time since March, 2020
• U18s are exempt and will only require a valid match ticket for entry

All adult supporters attending the Arsenal double-header will be required to present their NHS COVID Pass, generated by the NHS App, on their mobile device as they enter the stadium to confirm they are either fully vaccinated or have received a negative COVID-19 test result within 48 hours of kick-off.

Please note, if you have not yet received both required COVID-19 jabs, you will be required to take either a PCR or rapid lateral flow test.

Passes will be checked by a steward between the initial ticket check at the bottom of the stairs leading to our podiums and ahead of arrival at our turnstiles. Full details on presenting the NHS COVID Pass and a step-by-step guide to entering the stadium will be provided ahead of the event.

The trial will only add one step to the existing stadium entry process that supporters are familiar with and will allow us to control the flow of supporters into the stadium as the additional check is made.

Supporters will be asked to download, screengrab or print a copy of their NHS COVID Pass QR Code to ensure they are able to present it quickly.

Chelsea have quickly also followed Spurs lead by saying football fans attending home matches this season will have to provide proof of being fully vaccinated or show a negative Covid test, the requirement will come into force as soon as 4 August, with the checks in place for the men’s team’s friendly game against  Spurs at Stamford Bridge.

Fans will have to prove they had their second dose at least 14 days before the match to count as fully vaccinated, while proof of a negative lateral flow test carried out within 48 hours of kick-off time will also be accepted.

“This is to increase the safety and comfort of our supporters, players and staff as we begin hosting capacity crowds for the first time since March last year,” the Premier League club said. Chelsea says the requirement will ensure no one who is at high risk of passing on Covid will be able to enter either Stamford Bridge or Kingsmeadow, the home of the women’s team. Stewards will check fans’ status before they enter the stadiums.

Spurs and Chelsea stance on the subject is the biggest hint yet of what awaits West Ham supporters who are almost guaranteed to follow.

The first trial of the same Premier League protocols are likely to come into force on 23rd August at the London Stadium when West Ham face Leciester City.

  1. Ridiculous idea take hours to get in

  2. And what’s to stop someone sharing a screen shot around over whatsapp ? Madness. They need to take out the screen shot option, and have either the app live, or the certificate which you can order from the NHS with proof of ID. And yes, it will take forever along with the searching that no one else does.
Talking of apps, any news on digital tickets ?
