“While Guilherme is a hugely talented player and someone who is only going to get better at the age of 19, it feels like his time with West Ham is coming to an end…. An incredible prospect, it just hasn’t happened for him at the club and the last thing he needs is to waste his time at a club where he’s not playing.
From West Ham’s point of view, they can’t sit around and wait for a signing to get up to speed. Funds are limited in East London and given the frailties of Nuno’s squad in certain areas, the focus has to be on making new signings to strengthen. Doing so won’t be easy given their current financial situation, but if they can cash in on Guilherme and others, it could give them money to play with.”
It does feel like Guilherme has had his chance: Fluffing his lines when Summerville was injured, it does seem Nuno has already made up his mind since the youngster didn’t feature against Brighton either.

Guilherme – time to move on after a year and a half
Tellingly, he didn’t even make the match day squad.
Recouping £15m of the Steidten spend would be seen as good business if the funds can be reinvested in a player who is actually likely to feature: ‘Potential” is all very well providing the club has an endless amount of time to wait for it to develop. Something that, right now, West Ham do not have.
Why doesn’t the club send him out on loan? I’ve heard he’s never involved with the U21’s either. If so he’s getting no match time at all! Then he’s suddenly thrown in the first team… no wonder he’s struggling. Get him out to a club on loan to see what he’s got!! Give the boy a chance
I’d agree, it seems crazy to keep him between the u21’s and the seniors, never appearing for either
I find this stuff odd. He continues to be a 19 year old player close to the first team. The youngest of all the batch breaking through until Kanté and Meyers got minutes this week.
It was pretty telling how badly it went once Summerville and his pace went off on Sunday.
Yes, I agree, the Earthy situation is worrying. The opportunity to play him when Paqueta was suspended seemed obvious. What on earth is Nuno thinking! Words are all very well, but they need to be put into practice.
Most 19 year olds are not burdened by a large transfer fee and are sent out on loan to get first team experience before breaking into the first team. I think this is the path that Luis should now tread with a Championship team. Lewis Orford needs the same (again) as well. George Earthy not getting a chance after a successful loan is the one that worries me most
See it as quite the opposite: that the club is in too much of a hurry to try and recoup its cash. Think the way ahead for the club is investing time in developing such players, since youngsters develop at different speeds and he comes from a different academy. It is just the cash outlay which everybody uses as a reason to sell now, while nobody says he is not capable of becoming a very good player.
It’s true he was unable to grasp his chance in place of Summerville, but it was not much of a chance. If the manager says he is not ready, that is ok, many in the academy will not be, but what do Robson, Noble think?
He has been treading water at the club because of WHU mishandling and a disastrous sequence of managers (re. youth development). WHU managers have neither played him, nor handed him to the Academy to improve, nor put him out on loan – doing training routines for 2 years does not help in his development, it can even be detrimental since no physicality, no high demands made of a player day in, day out for fear of injury.
We are also short of wingers ready to step up to the PL at WHU I believe (Earthy is a midfielder) and given the style of play in the championship and league 1, he could do really well there and have a chance to mature, just like Potts, Earthy and Marshall. Seems a simple case of going out on loan and investing in the very near future – in a proper environment he could come on in leaps and bounds. His progress is slow because of WHU as well as nobody taking responsibility for him directly, so he just does training routines he could probably do since the age of 14.
Yes, but you do get the feeling that the potential is not totally being allowed to develop. However, I have to put my faith in the manager l
Typical West Ham, he will become a good player, but not at this club a club that no longer invests in the future, he doesn’t fit the bill, not old enough, after all we only want players who are at least 30 and can double up as defenders , we are not a progressive club anymore, poor lad must be rueing the day he signed for this negative outfit, not surprising he is dubbed as failure we rarely have more than 30% of the ball each time we play , my advice, get out and play for a decent team, you will do well in time , stay here and you will be stifled… 60 years supporting and never known it less entertaining…
