Things are looking good down Portsmouth way. One young Hammer is well on the way to making his Championship debut, according to the football club’s manager John Mousinho.
In an interview for local publication Portsmouth.co.uk, the Pompey boss has indicated that he will resist the temptation just to throw 21 year old Hammers loanee Freddie Potts in at the deep end until he is upto speed and ready to hit the ground running in The Championship. You’ll remember he spent last year on loan at Wycombe Wanderers ( pictured).
The south coast club are hopeful that Potts can have a big impact in their season but are mindful of his limited pre-season and need for match sharpness. Says the Manager: “Freddie’s good, but he’s come in and had a very different pre-season to us. ‘That’s fine, it’s just different ways of doing things.
So it’s just that adjustment to coming into this environment and that’s something we’ve been cautious with over Freddie. Again, he’s one who’s been around West Ham’s first team for the majority of pre-season, but actually hasn’t played a huge amount.
‘So we’ve been cautious with him and don’t want to throw him in the deep end without any game exposure.”
Encouraging news for Potts who could really return to West Ham at the end of the year in position to challenge for a squad place, he looked that good in pre-season.
We’ll keep an eye on his progress.
Kind of suggests his pre-season at West Ham wasn’t up to scratch 🤔
Good luck to him. Would love to see him break into Hammers squad for next season.
Yes very true, that’s an interesting comment from the Pompey boss, food for thought.
I’m looking forward to what our young players can do this season.
